AMIDST THE WITHERING
"THE DYING OF THE LIGHT"
"THE DYING OF THE LIGHT" is the second release from Atlanta, Georgia's AMIDST
THE WITHERING. Their last album was put out in 2005. The reason for the ten year
gap I'm not sure off, but after one listen to this new release I hope we don't have to wait
another ten years for the next one. This is a two piece band that consists of Serge Farinas
& John Hembree. They play Black Metal music that is done in a symphonic way with
some Doom Metal elements inter mixed. The music has a kind of orchestrated vibe from
time to time as well. There is a blanket of darkness that runs through out all their songs.
The music is very well written and constructed and could stand right next to some of the
greats in this genre. I loved how they will take you through a very dynamic and
symphonic passage and then slam you full on into some aggressive and blasting riffs and
beats. These two guys have created some of the best Black Metal to come out of the
United States in years. I can't believe how much I am saying that with bands in the U.S.
lately. It seems that the states are pouring out more and more amazing Black Metal bands
and AMIDST THE WITHERING is definitely one of them. If you like EMPEROR,
DIMMU BORGIR, SATYRICON, OLD MAN'S CHILD & LIMBONIC ART then
you need to add AMIDST THE WITHERING to your collection!!!
