Interview done by Burt Wolf with Mike Pribble, guitarist for BEYOND FATAL. Interview done May 1st, 2005.
I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU GUYS, SO CAN YOU PLEASE GIVE A BIT OF THE BANDS HISTORY? ANY PREVIOUS BANDS YOU GUYS WERE IN? We had a full line up in 1999, started playing shows hear & there & distributed demo CDs every where we could. Eventually we recorded & self released "SYMPHONY OF DYING CRIES" which did well for the time. After that, we signed to BLOODSOAKED RECORDS & released "SANCTUARY IN MISERY", which got our name out a lot more than anything we had done at that point. We started playing bigger shows, had some changes in the line up & began recording "THE DEMON EULOGY", our newest project. Right now we are shopping around for labels & plan to release the album in the summer. That's the band's history in a nutshell. As far as previous bands, our current bass player Dave has played in a few Doom bands prior to BEYOND FATAL. Myself & our drummer Adam also play in an extreme Metal band called DISSEVERMENT. Adam sings in that band & I play guitar. WHY WAS THE NAME BEYOND FATAL CHOSEN AS THE BANDS NAME? We considered several names at the time, but we just felt that BEYOND FATAL was the right name for us. It was inspired by a blood filled video game we all used to play. WHO OR WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR INFLUENCES IN MUSIC & IN LIFE? As far as Metal goes, we are influenced by a broad range of bands. IMMOLATION, SPAWN OF POSSESSION, INIGUITY, SUFFOCATION, MESHUGGAH, DEATH, CANNIBAL CORPSE, VILE, etc. Personally, outside of Metal, I love some ALICE IN CHAINS (probably my favorite band of all time) & some Industrial.

YOU GUYS HAVE AN OLD SCHOOL BRUTALITY MIXED WITH NEW SCHOOL INTENSITY SOUND. HOW WOULD YOU BEST DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE & SOUND? I'd say you did a pretty good job right there. I really suck at describing our sound. I just say it's heavy. We really put an emphasis on groove & the over all feeling of a song rather than playing fast all the time. "SANCTUARY IN MISERY" IS THE NEWEST RELEASE I HAVE OF YOURS, WHICH HAS BEEN OUT FOR AWHILE. HOW WELL DID THIS RELEASE DO FOR YOU GUYS?
WHAT WAS THE RESPONSE LIKE? I'd say that release was pretty successful for us. It really helped us get our foot in the door so to speak & got our name out a good bit. We got a lot of great reviews & feedback from supporters at shows. WHAT IS SOME OF THE LYRICAL CONTENT OF YOUR SONGS? Matt writes 95% of the lyrics & it is difficult to explain his writing style. He is one crazy bastard. He definitely strays from the gory side of things & focuses on more of a philosophical approach. He touches on a lot of personal demons & our new album will really show this. WHO WRITES THE MAJORITY OF YOUR SONGS? IS IT A WHOLE BAND COLLABORATION? I start most of the songs on guitar & then get with Adam & he writes all the drum parts. Usually following that we give Matt a tape & he writes the lyrics. Dave & Jeff finish the song writing process by throwing in any of their input & completing the overall sound of the tune. CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE COVER ART A BIT & WHO DID IT? A local guy named Troy Dunmire (a.k.a. Snake) did the cover art for us. It basically illustrates the "sanctuary in misery" & shows a troubled man sitting in front of this sanctuary, possibly contemplating his own existence. THIS DISC WAS PUT OUT ON BLOODSOAKED RECORDS. HOW DID YOU GET HOOKED UP WITH THEM? HOW WAS IT WORKING WITH THEM? ARE YOU STILL WITH THEM? We basically got signed when the owner of BLOODSOAKED heard some mp3's of ours on the internet. He emailed us & asked if we were looking for a label. We are not with BLOODSOAKED anymore. We signed for 1 album only. IS THERE A NEWER RELEASE OUT OR IS THERE ONE IN WORKS? Yes, "THE DEMON EULOGY". Advance tracks can be heard on our website.

ANY OTHER LABELS INTERESTED IN BEYOND FATAL? Yeah, we are talking to some labels right now, but I shouldn't mention any names yet. DO YOU GUYS PLAY OUT A LOT? WHERE ARE SOME OF THE PLACES YOU'VE PLAYED? WHO ARE SOME OF THE BANDS YOU'VE SHARED THE STAGE WITH? We play out as much as possible. This summer we will be playing like madmen
& possibly touring the est or west coast if possible. To this point, we have only played in various places around the PA/MD/VA/WV area. We have played with bands such as SUFFOCATION, GOATWHORE, CATTLE DECAPITATION, WATCH THEM DIE, MORTICIAN, MISERY INDEX, a whole slew of local bands & many more. DO YOU HAVE ANY GOOD STORIES TO SHARE OF BEING ON TOUR OR PLAYING LIVE? I can't really think of a specific story...we have a lot of good times at shows. ARE YOU INTO ANY OTHER STYLES BESIDES WHAT YOU PLAY? WHO ARE SOME OF THE BANDS YOUR CURRENTLY INTO? We are all into various style of music. I started learning guitar by playing Jazz & Blues stuff, so that was an early influence for me. As far as what I am currently into, I've been listening to a lot of GODFLESH. WHAT DO THE MEMBERS OF THE BAND DO WHEN NOT DOING ANY WORK FOR THE BAND? I go to college full time & work at a music store part time. Adam works in West Virginia running a saw, Matt is just started a new inventory job, Jeff is a construction worker & Dave works all around welding shit. Personally, I like to play paintball, watch fights, drink beer & train in MMA with Adam & Matt when we have the time. WE ARE BOTH PART OF THE PENNSYLVANIA MUSIC SCENE. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF OUR SCENE? WHO DO YOU FEEL ARE SOME OF THE BETTER BANDS, LABELS & ZINES IN PENN.? The scene here is off & on, probably much like anywhere else. I'd say right now it is actually pretty strong for extreme stuff. There aren't a whole hell of a lot of really heavy bands in PA. so people tend to really appreciate the bands that do exist here. I am not up on all of the zines in this area, so I can't comment on that. WHAT IS ONE THING PEOPLE WOULD BE SURPRISED TO FIND OUT ABOUT YOU? I like pizza & beer.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE MOVIES OR TV SHOWS? EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND is good, THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER on Spike is great. I am a huge UFC fan so I really dig that show. As far as movies go, I like BAD TASTE, DEAD ALIVE, EVIL DEAD, COMMANDO, TRUE LIES, PREDATOR, SNIPER, AMERICAN BEAUTY, so on...I could list movies all day. WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON THE WAR WE ARE FIGHTING NOW & SOME OF THE OTHER DECISIONS OUR PRESIDENT HAS MADE FOR THIS COUNTRY? Right now I have mixed feelings. Honestly, I haven't been keeping up on current events like I was in the recent past so I don't feel that I can comment on the president & the war. CAN YOU GIVE SOME OF YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE TRAGIC MURDER OF THE GREAT DIMEBAG DARRELL FROM PANTERA & DAMAGEPLAN? I think it shows how fucking nutty some people are. It was a true tragedy & is a day that will be remembered for quite some time. Dimebag was an incredible player & seemed like an even better guy. PANTERA was one of the first Metal bands I got into when I was younger so of course I was crushed when I heard the news. WHAT CAN WE EXPECT TO SEE NEXT FROM BEYOND FATAL? Hopefully quite a lot. We will most likely be signing to a label within the next three weeks & from there we will release "THE DEMON EULOGY" & play as much as we possibly can. THANX A LOT FOR DOING THIS INTERVIEW. WOULD YOU LIKE TO ADD ANYTHING ELSE TO CLOSE OUT? Thanks for the interview. Keep your eyes peeled for our new album & go to the website. We are also on myspace right now.
