Well that is definately a good feeling! It's a good thing knowing that there are people out there that are using us for an influence. If they're going to blatently play our stuff then that's not a good influence. I think it is good that people are willing to use us as a guide & inevitably find their own style. It's a good feeling knowing younger bands are using us for an influence. WHAT BANDS, UNDERGROUND OR OTHER HAVE YOU BEEN LISTENING TO LATELY? Not to many really. I just find myself listening to a lot of the music I grew up with. A lot of older Metal. As for the new stuff, I don't really know too much of what's out there. I've been listening a lot to our new record. I really enjoy it. I like the way everything turned out. IT SEEMS THE RECENT MAJOR DEATH METAL RELEASES HAVEN'T BEEN RECIEVED AS WELL AS THE ONES FOUR OR FIVE YEARS AGO. WHAT ARE YOUR FEELINGS ON THAT? I don't know. I think bands will get more attention on major labels, but look where a lot of the Death Metal bands ended up, on independent labels. Death Metal is an underground sort of music & the labels aren't going to be able to give them the credit & the push they need because they are going to be lower on the list. The major labels are worrying about other bigger bands. I don't think bands associated with major labels are going to be Death Metal. That's why we've always stayed on independent labels. We have enough creative control through this label & we can do what we want & we get plenty of distribution. We just don't need to be on a major label. I think Death Metal needs to be independent & ket where it's at. SINCE YOUR APPEARANCE IN "ACE VENTURA" WITH JIM CARREY HAS ANY OTHER MOVIE DEALS OR ANYTHING ELSE COME FROM THAT? No, not at all. That was just a one time deal. We do still see the residuals from the movie which is good. It's good seeing a check once in awhile. The movie did so well all over the world that we are still seeing some cash from it. So that's cool. It was a lot of fun & great exposure. I don't think we would ever turn down another oppertunity. It was great! HOW DID YOU GET THAT PART? Actually Jim Carrey is a big Death Metal fan & particualarly a fan of CANNIBAL CORPSE. So he actually requested that we were in the movie. We felt honored! We lived in Buffalo at the time & we flew down to Miami. We met the director & Jim Carrey. It was awesome & it was a lot of fun! I HEARD THAT THERE WAS SOME EXTRA FOOTAGE WHERE JIM CARREY GETS ON STAGE & SINGS WITH THE BAND. WILL THAT FOOTAGE EVER BE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC? Oh yeah, you know what you got to do is wait til NBC airs it again. What happened was when we were filiming for 2 days a lot of footage was shot, but when we went for the premier there was 45 seconds & we were over. They took out the funny part & nothing was herad about it until last year. We got a few calls from some friends who told us thay had shown different footage on NBC. Then they played this extra footage again on NBC & I got it on tape. So I got the whole thing. I really think the movie did so well that it will probably be played once a year on NBC. That's probably the only way to see the extra footage. It really is pretty funny. YOU GUYS ARE HITTING PHILLY ON THIS TOUR, RIGHT? Yeah, I think we are! GOOD, BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE I'M AT & I'VE NEVER CAUGHT YOU GUYS LIVE BEFORE! Cool! I don't think we've ever played in Philly or maybe once in 1990 & this time around. I'm almost 99% sure we have a place we will be playing in Philly! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'LL DO AFTER CANNIBAL CORPSE HAS BEEN LAID TO REST? I don't know. I don't think too much into the future a lot. I really don't even know. I don't give too much thought of the band ending. I would probably stay involved in music. It's hard to speculate. Who knows when the band will end & if it does who knows what my thoughts & views will be at that point. I'm 30 & in ten years at 40 who know how I will feel & think. Over the years you change. I definately think I've changed mentally in the last ten years, so whose to say how I will change in the next 10 years. That's a tough question to answer. Life is weird like that. I will be playing hockey until I can't skate anymore. In the hockey realm 30 is old, so there goes my career in hockey! (laughs) THANX A LOT FOR YOUR TIME & INSIGHT INTO THE WORLD OF CANNIBAL CORPSE. WOULD YOU LIKE TO ADD ANY LAST COMMENTS OR ANYTHING ELSE TO CLOSE OUT? Thanks for the interview & for the support. We hope the fans out there stay with it & keep up the support. With out them we will be nothing! |
