COLUMBIAN NECKTIE
"TWILIGHT UPON US"
Self Released

"TWILIGHT UPON US" is the debut release of Los Angeles, California's Sludgecore
band
COLUMBIAN NECKTIE. This release came out back in 2014 and hits you like a
pile of Sludge. They have a very thick and low ended Sludge / Doom Metal style, but it is
infused with Hardcore elements. I know I get really picky when it comes to Doom &
Sludge Metal, but these guys are probably one of my favorites. They have a little bit of
psychedelic and Southern Metal mixed into their sound, which I don't usually like, but
loved the way they inter mixed it into their sound. The music tends to be a bit dragging in
spots, which is normal for this style of music, but at times they speed it up a bit and this
is where the Hardcore influences come in. I liked the faster parts a bit more. The guitars
have that buzzing fuzziness to them that kind of is where the old 60's type guitar vibe
comes into play.  I was really digging these guys a lot, because this is usually not a style I
like much. The vocals are done in a mid ranged throaty almost sore throat sounding style.
It's a bit rougher and has that Hardcore style, but slowed down with more Sludge. This
may not be for everyone, but i think everyone should give it a shot. I ended up loving it
and was surprised since, like I said this is not my favorite style of music. If you were to
combine the talents and sounds of
THE MELVINS, MONSTER MAGNET,
BUZZCOCKS, NASHVILLE PUSSY, DOWN,
early HELMET, MUDHONEY,
CONVERGE, UNSANE
& HIGH ON FIRE then you'd have a good idea of what
COLUMBIAN NECKTIE is all about! The bands name comes from a form of torture
where the victims neck is sliced and their tongue is pulled through! Kind of sick and cool
at the same time! Huh!
