"A DISCOURAGED BELIEVER"
DECEMBRE NOIR which means "Black December" in French, hails from Germany
and plays Doom / Death Metal music. The band has been around since 2008, but "A
DISCOURAGED BELIEVER" is the bands first release which came out last year. These
guys play a depressive and melancholic style of Doom Metal with much Death Metal
mixed with in. At times, especially in the slower more Doom Metal parts it almost has a
Viking Metal feel to it, almost like a slower, darker version of AMON AMARTH. I am
kind of picky when it comes to Doom Metal bands, but these guys balance it out evenly
with Death Metal that makes you almost forget that they are a Doom Metal band. They
have a very thick low ended sound that has kind of a dirty vibe to it as well. The guitars
have a haunting sound to them that kind of runs chills up your spin. The drumming is
done in a slow dragging beat sound and then it will kick into a faster, blasting part and
then halt right back into a slow drag. The vocals are done in a thick groggy Death growl
style that also reminded me of Johan Hegg from AMON AMARTH. I really liked these
guys a lot and could see them pulling in fans of many extreme Metal styles.
DECEMBRE NOIR has a little bit of flavoring from MY DYING BRIDE,
KATATONIA, PARADISE LOST, OPETH, ANATHEMA, AMON AMARTH,
NOVEMBERS DOOM & UNLEASHED all mixed together. If you dig any or all these
bands mentioned then you'll love DECEMBRE NOIR. I know I did!!!
