| CATACUMBA - BIRKAT HA-MINIM (4 track CD) Self Releasd CATACUMBA hails from Brazil & play a great mixture of Black & Death Metal music. There is a lot of heavy pounding that is known in Death Metal music, but they cover it all in dark & somber, but brutal Black Metal influences. The music has a good balance of fast paced & atmospheric more mid paced music. There is a strong old school style to their sound as well. The vocals are done in a mid ranged Black Metal scream combined with some mid ranged Death Metal growls. These guys are really good & would be enjoyed by fans of both Black Metal & Death metal styled music!!! | CRAFT - FUCK THE UNIVERSE (11 track CD) SOUTHERN LORD RECORDINGS This is the last offering from this Swedish Black Metal band. The guys are calling it quits after this disc. These guys are not your typical Swedish Black metal band either. These guys fill their sound with hatred, violence & pure brutallity. The music has a really dark & dreary sound all through out. Sometimes the music is more Doom Meatl like & atmospheric, while others it has an old school angry Black Metal feel to it. The vocals are done in a draggy Black Metal type mid ranged scream style. This is an album any Black Metal fan should have in their collection. It's sad to see such a great band die off!!! |
| DELIAN LEAGUE - TRUTH IN CHAOS (10 track CD) Self Release This New Jersey based Metal band is quite amazing. These guys play a great combination of Power Metal & Thrash Metal music. You can also hear a lot of Traditional Heavy Metal & even some Progressive Metal sounds in their music as well. The music is super tight & has a really good technical sound to it. The music is very guitar driving, but they never over power any of the other instruments. The vocals are done in a mid ranged powerful & melodic Thrash/Power Metal style. The bands that kept coming to mind were FORBIDDEN, FATES WARNING & MANOWAR! I really liked this band a lot, they should be exploding in the Metal scene soon. | DELICTA CARNIS - SELF TITLED (4 track CD) Metal Devastation DELICTA CARNIS is another great band that hails from Brasil. These guys play a great mix of Black Metal & death Metal music. The music is more dominant in Death Metal, but the Black Metal influences are very present. There is a strong old school style to their sound. The music has a beaten down cold & dark vibe to it all through out. I like the drum sound the most in the band, they are just heavy as hell pounding. The vocals are done in a mid ranged Black/Death Metal crossover growl style that occassionally has a scream or two tossed in. This is yet another great Brazilian band well worth checking out!!! | EMPTINESS - PROMO 2005 (3 Track CD) Self Release This is the latest promo CD from the Belgian band EMPTINESS. These guys play a Black Metal mixed with Death Metal style of music. The music is very well structured, tight & some what technical sounding. I really like the cool rythyms they have all through out the songs. The music is fast, aggressive sound with some slower more sludgy parts as well. The vocals are done in a mid ranged Death metal growl that is creeping towards Black metal at times. | F.O.B. - DEFAULT (11 track CD) I.F.A. Records here we have the newest offering from this great Czech Republic band. These guys have been shredding the scene up for a few years now. This new disc is a little different from past releases. They still have their trademark Death Metal & Grindcore sound, but they add a little more flavor to the mix. This time around the guys toss in some classic Thrash Metal influences along with some Power Metal & Rock. The music has a more grooving vibe this time as well. The vocals are done in a mid ranged Death growl with some more melodic vocals at times too. This should please the bands already established fans as well as grab them some new ones!!! This time around their sound is a bit different from past releases. The intense & spastic Grindcore sound is there, but they build on it this time. They toss in many elements of Death Metal, Thrash metal, Noise, Industrial, Techno & Experimental to create this amazing new disc. The vocals are also done ina few styles too. There are Grindcore screams, Death growls & melodic Metal vocals as well. | HATE PROFILE - THE KHAOS HATEFILE (9 track CD) CRUZ DEL SUR MUSIC This band is the brain child of Amon 418. He inlists different musicians as session musicians on his projects. This is the first Opus in the trilogy. The music is done in a very brutal Black Metal style. The music is very fast, heavy & aggressive sounding. There are some more melodic & atmospheric parts that are also a little slower. The music has a strong war like sound to it & reminds me of a lot of old school Black Metal releases. The vocals are done in a mid ranged harsh Black Metal growl & scream. If this is what the first offering is like then I can't wait to hear the next 2 releases. | LUCIFIXION - AS EVIL AS ME (3 track CD) Self Release This band has been around the scene for a long time now. I remember having a few of their demos back in the day. The band is back with a new line up, a new offering & a slightly different sound. The music is mostly in the Death Metal field, but I do hear some Thrash Metal influences all through out the music. There is a really good groove through out their songs that really pulls you in. The vocals are done in a mid ranged Death growl style with some melodic & angelic female vocals in the mix too. These guys have a sound similar to my old band FAMILY OF FREAKS, minus the female vocals. This a great look at what they have to offer in the future. This is the most impressive & well crafted album they have releases thus far. They have classic Hardcore & Punk elemenst mixed with some Metal driven influences. These guys claim to be a Metal band, nothing more, nothing less. They are a lot more than you typical Metal band though. The music is mostly in the Thrash Metal range, but it's a cold & dark Thrash style. They do toss in lots of elements of Death Metal as well. The music also has an old school Black Metal vibe to the music as well. These guys are really good & take me back to when I first got into music & started to love Metal the most. I reviewed the bands last release & interviewed these guys as well, so I'm a big fan of their music. This new disc follows down the same path as the last album. These guys play a mix of Metal & Industrial music with some slight touches of Hardcore & Death metal tossed in. The music is really fast paced crunchy Industrial sounding laced with Metal all through out. The vocals are done in a harsh Industrial almost Death Metal style. These guys are a great band. | WHEN FREEDON DIES - MINOR CUTS (18 track CD) Self Release These guys hail from Conneticut, but sound like they could be from New York, by the sound of their music. These guys play Hardcore music in a New York style. They have an old school New York Hardcore style like SICK OF IT ALL, S.O.D. & AGNOSTIC FRONT mixed with new school Conneticut Hardcore. The music is hyper fast & very aggressive sounding. This I liked a lot. I love Hardcore like this!The vocals are done in a mid ranged Hardcore style that reminded me of S.O.D., H20, BIOHAZARD, SPUDMONSTERS & old HELMET all mixed together. These guys are one of the best Hardcore bands I've heard in a long time & I hope to see a lot of them in the future. All fans of Hardcore & Metal will dig these guys.
