ACEPHALIX - DEATHLESS MASTER
(8 track CD) SOUTHERN LORD
Emerging from the San Francisco Death Metal scene comes ACEPHALIX. "DEATHLESS
MASTER" is the second offering from these old school Death Metalers. These guys take things
back to the old school with a really crunchy and brutal Death Metal style. They add in some
flavoring of Crust and Grind into the mix. There is a really raw and aggressive sound that was very
popular in the early stages of Death Metal music. The relentless pace the music has just destroys
the listener with a wall of noise. The guitars have a real strong static and crunchy style to them as
well. The vocals are mostly planted in a mid ranged hallowed Death growl style. These guys have
taking their sound one step further with each new release. This is a killer old school brutal Death
Metal release that will please many Death heads out there!

BLACK MESSIAH - THE FINAL JOURNEY

Founded back in 1994 a Black Metal band these guys have progressed over the years and emerged as
one of the best bands in the German Metal scene. Over the years the bands sound has evolved a bit
to add in lots of Viking, Folk & Pagan Metal elements. "THE FINAL JOURNEY" is the fifth full
length release from these guys and is the second Ruhr Viking concept album following their 2009
release "FIRST WAR OF THE WORLD". With the band adding in these newer elements it has taken
them to a whole new level. There are still the old school harsh Black Metal passages all through out,
but they are mixed with some very Epic Folk Metal sounds along with some cold and atmospheric
Pagan and Viking sounds. This is only my second offering of this amazing band and I loved
everything about this album. If your not a fan of traditional Folk Metal bands, give these guys a
listen, cause they have a lot more to offer than most bands playing this style, plus all the Black
Metal elements make them more diverse. Truly an amazing album from start to finish!

These guys are in no way a typical Grindcore band. They have that old school, crunchy and noisy
Grindcore style, but they add in many other elements to make them stand out. There are a lot of
Death Metal influences, especially in the song arrangements. Thrash Metal becomes present in some
of the Crunchy guitar riffs through out each song and then we have a lot of Crust present in each
song with all the harsh spastic sounds mixed with in. The vocals round the bands sound out with a
blend of Death Metal growls and Grind core screams. These guys take me back to the days when I
was listening to a lot of spastic Crust & Hardcore combined with early 90's Death Metal and late
90's Grindcore, especially a lot of stuff coming out of the Czech Republic. These guys are amazing!

Singapore. These guys play a Blackened Thrash Metal style. There is a lot of mixtures of old school
and new school Black Metal elements present, but the old school tends to dominate. The raw, harsh
and aggressive sound blankets the majority of their sound. Fast paced blast beats, speeding raw
guitar riffs and a massive full sound is what these guys have to offer. The guitar arrangements and

IT is a one man band project. The music is done in a kind of Black Metal style mixed with Gothic
Metal. The music sounds like it is done all on an organ and has a creepy Horror movie type feel to
it. The music on the first track is all instrumental and would go well as the background music for
some of the dark Horror films of the 70's, especially the more Gothic HAMMER FILMS. The
second track is a cover of BLACK SABBATH's "Electric Funeral". This one is done slightly
different and has more of a mechanical type feel to it. The music itself sounds like it was done all on
a computer and has a slightly creepy feel to it too. The vocals are a mix between mid ranged clean
vocals, higher pitched clean vocals and lower ended Death Metal growls. This was a pretty decent
different take on the BLACK SABBATH cover, but no offense to IT or anyone else out there, I
would rather hear BLACK SABBATH over someone covering BLACK SABBATH.

LYRIEL - LEVERAGE
(10 track CD) AFM RECORDS
Wow! I was blown away by LYRIEL right from the start. This band hails from Germany and play
Folk Metal music, but there is a hell of a lot more present here. They add in a lot of elements of Epic
Power Metal, Classical, Celtic & Traditional Heavy Metal music as well. The music sometimes will
lean more towards one style, but most of the time they blend all these styles together flawlessly.
This is one truly amazing and talented band. The music will go from an all out worldly Celtic tune
into a fast paced aggressive Metal song and then into a heavy rocking Folk metal song. The balance
of the heavy aggressive side mixed with the lighter more upbeat Folk and Celtic elements is perfect.
They round their sound out with the beautiful vocal stylings of Jessica Theirjung. The addition of
keyboards, cello and violins, just adds to the Epic powerful sound they have created. This was my
first offering of hearing LYRIEL and I have found one of my newest favorite bands. This is one of
the most talented and all around great bands I have heard in a very long time. This is extremely epic
and I must now seek out their past catalog because one album of theirs is not enough. I can not
praise this band enough and encourage everyone to pick up a"LEVERAGE".

MEGASCAVENGER - SONGS OF THE FLESH
(2 track 7" Record) SELFMADEGOD RECORDS
MEGASCAVENGER is the brain child of Rogga Johansson. He is known for playing in such great
bands as RIBSPREADER, BONE GNAWER, PAGANIZER, REVOLTING and more. This time
around he has gotten some of his friends in the Death Metal scene to add their talents to this new
project. This two song EP is just a prelude to what he has to offer us. This is some old school
Swedish Death Metal at it's finest. It is raw, aggressive and brutal Death Metal. This band takes you
almost back to the roots of Death Metal music. The vocals are done in a groggy rough and harsh
Death Metal growl style that is almost done in a Doom Metal way. The musical skills of such greats
like Jorgan Sandstrom of GRAVE & Paul Speckman of MASTER are used on this release. If this
two song release is what the full length has two offer than I can't wait to see what comes next!

MEGASCAVENGER is the brain child of Rogga Johansson. He is known for playing in such great
bands as RIBSPREADER, BONE GNAWER, PAGANIZER, REVOLTING and more. This time
around he has gotten some of his friends in the Death Metal scene to add their talents to this new
project. This two song EP is just a prelude to what he has to offer us. This is some old school
Swedish Death Metal at it's finest. It is raw, aggressive and brutal Death Metal. This band takes you
almost back to the roots of Death Metal music. The vocals are done in a groggy rough and harsh
Death Metal growl style that is almost done in a Doom Metal way. The musical skills of such greats
like Jorgan Sandstrom of GRAVE & Paul Speckman of MASTER are used on this release. If this
two song release is what the full length has two offer than I can't wait to see what comes next!

as MINISTRY. Al has come back from a lot of stuff as well as a near death experience in 2010 to

the end for this band. With each new album Al brings in some new musicians and creates a new
monster of an album. Each new release sounds a little different than the previous but they all contain

PANYCHIDA is a Pagan Metal band hailing from Czech Republic. These guys started back in 2004
and have been pushing forward ever since. The is bound in the Pegan Metal style but they add in
lots of Black Metal, Death Metal and Heavy Metal into their sound. The music has very aggressive
and raw old school Black Metal feel, but the Pagan and Death Metal has a more modern feel to it.
There are some really strong song structures and compositions that make them a stronger more
powerful band playing this style. The music at times has a bit of a Folk Metal and Epic Metal vibe
to it. Harsh thick Black Metal growls round out the bands sound to complete the Pagan Black Metal
style. These guys also add in some bagpipes and sing one song in old Slavonic language. The album
also contains a cover of a RUNNING WILD song and two live tracks from when the band played
the Phantoms Of Pilsen Festival. PANYCHIDA is a bit different from most of the stuff I'm used to
hearing from the Czech Republic, but it is a very welcomed change!

years. They put out two EP's and a split release and now we have their first full length release.
These guys have a cool combination of 80's California Hardcore mixed with 70's British Punk Rock
and New York Punk Rock from the 80's. I have always loved Punk Rock since the early 80's when I
got into skateboarding and these guys take me back to those days. They have all that angst,
aggression and attitude that I loved from those days. It has nothing to do with the Pop Punk sounds
that we hear a lot of today. They take you back to the days of playing in dirty small clubs and
everyone was having a great time. If you took THE MEATMEN, MINOR THREAT, BLACK
FLAG, CIRCLE JERKS, JFA & AGENT ORANGE and blended them all together then you'd

band more depth. SKELETONWITCH is another band that emerged on the scene within the past
10 years that a lot of bands starting now are trying to be like. I've seen these guys live with GWAR

VENUSIAN DEATH CELL is a one man band based out of Ireland. I get a lot of stuff from this
band and a lot of it sounds similar. Most of the stuff is done acoustic or on a keyboard and sounds
like it is recorded in someone's bedroom on a cheap recorder. The music varies in styles, sometimes
it is done in a Metal style, others sounds like it's Punk Rock, while most of it sounds like it is just
Experimental music. Most of it has the feel of someone rehearsing in their room and recording it to
see what it sounds like. This is not my favorite stuff to listen to, but I know a lot of people are into
this Experimental stuff. If you dig weird and strange stuff like this then seek this band out, I know
he has a lot of releases out there.

Sweden's WOLFBRIGADE are back with a crushing new release in the form of "DAMNED".
These guys have been kicking around the scene since 1995. They originally started out under the
name WOLFPACK. They put out a few releases under that name and now are known as
WOLFBRIGADE. They play a very harsh and raw sounding style of Crust / Punk / Metal music.
The music is really dirty sounding and very noisy. They have that old school Punk / Metal
Crossover style that is covered with some angry Crust music. I have been hearing a lot of bands
playing this style of music lately and it takes me back to the late 80's and early 90's when I was
skateboarding and discovering a lot of new underground Metal and Punk bands. I was really getting
into Crust back then to and I'm glad to see there's amazing bands like WOLFBRIGADE still
playing this style. These guys are one of the better bands out there now doing this too. If your like
me and you like your Punk & Metal mixed together and a bit dirty then check out
WOLFBRIGADE.
