These guys blend together heavy elements of Black metal, Death Metal & Traditional Heavy Metal. There are so many great things going on in this band. They alternate between the above styles in the songs as well as use influences of them all together. There is a slight haunting sound through out the whole disc too. There is a combination of low harsh Death growls & higher pitched Black Metal screams. This is one band that will please fans of many styles of Metal! | GUTWORM - RUIN MY MEMORY (10 song CD) ANTICULTURE RECORDS Wow! I was really impressed with this band from the first second the CD started. These guys hail from England & play one of the best blends of Death Metal & hardcore I've heard in a long time. They have an even balance of elements from both styles. The music is fast, tight as hell & heavy as shit! I loved how they go from an all out grooved Hardcore beat into a chaotic & aggressive Death Metal styled one. They mix it up a lot with blasts, rappid fire drums, grooves, grinds & breakdowns. At times you can even hear touches of Grindcore tossed in the mix. The vocals are a blend of low Death growls, mid ranged Hardcore screams & higher pitched Grindcore screams. These guys are fuckin' awesome. | HORDE OF WORMS - THE UNCREATION (13 song CD) BLOODBUCKET PRODUCTIONS (Available through BEOWOLF PRODUCTIONS) My boys are back with another great album full of Canadian Blast Metal! I've always liked these guys & each of their CD's has gotten beter & better. This one is no exception. This disc is faster, tighter & much more intense than their last release. They combine elements of Death Metal, Black Metal & some Crust to come up with their sound! The music never let's up. It just keeps running you over & over again. The drums are blasting Death Metal all the way, while the guitars is where the Black Metal & Crust come into play. The vocals are done in a lower Death growl & a higher Black Metal growl. | KEY DRAGON - DRINK FROM THE WATERS OF WAR (11 song CD) SELF RELEASE This is my first time hearing this band that hails from California. These guys have a some what different style to their music. The music is mostly based in the Gothic & Power metal areas, but they do add other styles through out. At times, especially in the heavier parts you can hear some Death Metal influences coming into play. They do have a lot of Doom Metal elements present as well. Sometimes they toss in some world musical sounds too. The vocals are a mix of higher pitched Power Metal, lower end Death Metal & mid ranged Doom vocals. | KEY DRAGON - AWAKEN THE LAIR (11 song CD) SELF RELEASE This second CD I recieved from KEYDRAGON is a little different from the previous one. The music still has a bit of the Gothic & Power Metal base, but they've added some more influences & sounds. On this disc there is a more dominate keyboard & sax sound then the above disc. They also added some female vocals on this disc as well. Sometimes the music sounds like a little too much is going on & I felt like I was getting lost. The male vocals have an almmost Synth & Punk feel to them. | LITURGY - DAWN OF ASH (11 song CD) UNMATCHED BRUTALITY RECORDS Damn! This disc started in all soft & quiet, for about five seconds & just steamrolled the hell out of me with pure brutality. These guys are highly hyper, intense & fast as hell Death Grind! The music was exhausting me, it was so fast! They have a really cool old school meets new school vibe going on. The guitars were really crunchy & the drums are ultra tight & fast. The vocals are done in a low end deep Death growl gurggle. As always, all songs were produced, written & performed by Mark Golde. I've said this in the past & will continue to say this, Mark Golde is one highly talented musician. He mixes together a few styles of Metal to create his sound. He combines many elements from Thrash Metal, Doom, Death Metal, Grindcore & even some touches of hardcore & Black Metal. | NEHEMAH - REQUIEM TENEBRAE (8 song CD) OKEN SHEILD / ADIPOCER RECORDS Holy Crap! If you want to hear some unholy dark & extremely well played Black metal, then these guys from France are just what your looking for! They have a very cold & dark atmospheric Black Metal type sounds with some fast & brutal war like sounds. There is a strong haunting vibe all through out the disc too.
