This man pays homage to the great ancestors of Black metal music. The music has avery strong old school Black metal feel that is dark dreary, cold & a bit haunting in places. These guys play a well rounded style of Hardcore music that infuses many elements from Punk, Alternative & Rock in general all into their sound. There is a very cool up beat & moving Hardcore sound that underlines most of their music, but they do add in some slower melodies, chant along choruses & more. I dig the stop & start parts & grooves a lot through out their songs. The vocals are done in a mid ranged Hardcore screaming style balanced with some melodic mellower vocals as well. This is one for fans of FUGAZI, QUICKSAND, FACE TO FACE & even some BAD RELIGION & Their previous band WITH HONOR! |

These guys have really ripped the underground Death Metal scene a new hole over all the years. These guys play ultra brutal & aggressive as hell Death Metal music. They do like to combine lots of elements of Grindcore into their music as well as some spastic Crust parts. The music is very intense & completely fucks the shit out of you! | ANAL PUDDING - A NICE POOP (14 track CD) Self Released This band from Buffalo, Ny has squrted out their first full length album in the bands 4 year existance. These guys play some very wacked out sounding music. There is a weird Punk Rock undertone to their music, but it's coated with lots of other stuff all through out. There are some really funky grooves, some horns, some almost Barber Shop type music along with some strange broadway like styles mixed in as well. They even have some Jazz like sounds in their songs too. It's really hard to describe these guys, this is one band that really needs to be heard to try & understand them. | ARISE AND RUIN - THE FINAL DAWN (10 track CD) VICTORY RECORDS "The Final Dawn" is the debut CD release from this amazingly good band out of Onatrio Canada. These guys play Metal music that pulls influences from Thrash, Death & Speed Metal music. There are some slight touches of Hardcore in their sound at times. Their music has really crunchy Thrash & Speed like guitar sounds, while the drums & vocals tend to lean towards Death Metal more. I love when bands combine styles like these togather & these guys are definately one of the best at doing so. There are some really fast assgressive parts mixed with some very cool breakdowns & intense screaming Thrash/Death Metal crossover styled vocals that remind me of NAPALM DEATH a bit! | ARMSRACE - CROSS YOUR FINGERS FOR THE NEXT ICEAGE (4 track CD) IMPERIAL WAX RECORDS These guys from New Jersey play a very different sounding style of Hardcore music. The music is definately based in the Hardcore genre, but they have a strong Punk Rock overtone sound that is mixed with some almost 60's psychedelic surf style music. There is a weird errie & creepy old 40's & 50's horror movie music sound too. There are a lot of fast paced parts that are sometimes spastic, but then there are some strange slow & spacey sounding parts as well. The vocals are done in a mid ranged melodic Hardcore style which are combined with some harsher more screaming Hardcore styled ones! | AUDIOPAIN - THE SWITCH TO TURN OF MANKIND (6 track CD) VENDLUS RECORDS I don't know anything about this band, except that fact they are very good! I love their over all sound a lot. The music is definately based in the Death Metal genre, but they do blend in some touches of Thrash Metal all through out. I dig this style a lot! The music sometimes reminds me of a faster more aggressive & heavier version of MOTORHEAD! The guitars almost remind me of MEGADETH a bit. The vocals are done in a low hallowed sounding Death/Thrash crossover style. Any fan of Metal bands from the late 80's & early 90's will love these guys! I know I did! | BALZAC - DEEP BLUE: CHAOS IN DARKISM (22 track CD) MISFITS RECORDS I was happy to have this disc in my hands, beings as I interviewed these guys for their last release. This is the 3rd release for MISFITS RECORDS, but 7th over all. These guys hail from Japan & play Horror Punk music that is very, very cool! They are considered the Japanese version of THE MISFITS. They do have a strong style like them, but these guys have a definate sound of their own. The music is a pretty fast paced 70's styled Punk with lots of Japanese Punk flare mixed with in. The music is very fast paced paced, ultra heavy & technical sounding Death Metal music. The music is tight as hell, very catchy & driven Death Metal. I like how they will go from a crushing all out Death Metal aggressive style into a bit more melodic & technical sounding style. | CALES - SAVAGE BLOOD (12 track CD) METAL BREATH PRODUCTION "Savage Blood" is the 4th album release from this former ROOT band member for his project CALES. This band is a bit different then his previous. The music is more instrumental in nature & has a very strong Epic, Power & Progressive Metal sound. The music does add in flavoring of World Music at times too. I liked the fact that the music is more reminescent of his 2nd album "The Pass In Time". There is an epic story being told, just through the instruments alone. There are some elements of Black metal present in areas as well, this is probably because of the structure of the songs! | CIRCUS OF DEAD SQUIRRELS - THE POP CULTURE MASSACRE... (11 track CD) FOR A NATION Damn! I total enjoyed these guys when I got their first disc. I even interviewed them, because of it. This new disc is way better than their last one & that one was amazing. These guys play some very heavy Industrialized Death Metal music with some elements of Electronica all through out. They have a very intense sound that is all over the place, but is meant to be! There are some cool grooved beats & stop & start parts all through out. Thes eguys play Hardcore that is more reminescent of bands Like HELMET & QUICKSAND & less like bands of today. These guys have a more modern sound, but with elements of bands from above mentioned. The music has it's fast paced all out aggressive parts, but they also have the more melodic & mellower parts too. These guys mix theings up a bit & keep a good balnce of both. the vocals also follow the same style as the music. | DANGER FREE ANIMALS - NUESTRAS HECES (10 track CD) Self Released I have a few of this bands past releases & I would definately say these guys have gotten better with each new release. I think they have even changed their sound a little bit. They have gotten much tighter & cleaner as a unit, with better structured songs as well. The music is done on a grooved out Death Metal style. There are some heavier & less groovy parts & more Thrashing Death parts too. They take elements from Thrash, Speed, Death & even a little Hardcore to create their sound. The vocals are done in a mid ranged Hardcore/Death crossover style & sung in their native tongue. | REMOVE THE VEIL - ANOTHER WAY HOME (11 track CD) FACEDOWN RECORDS This is a band I have heard of before, but never actually heard them. Damn! These guys are great. I really dig thier sound a lot, it's a mix of Hardcore, Metal & Southern Rock music. This is a different blend that not many bands play & the ones who do, don't play as well as these guys! I dig how they go into an all out spastic sounding Hardcore Metal fast paced style then sludge it up a bit into a Southern Rock sound. The vocals follwo the same way with harsh Hardcore Metal vocals that almost remind me of CARCASS, with less Death Metal & then hit you with some clean Southern Rock vocals. These guys are highly recomended & a must to check out!!! |
| SEROTONAL - THE FUTILITY OF TRYING TO AVOID THE UNAVOIDABLE (5 track CD) METAL BREATH PRODUCTION Coming out of Liverpool England is this very different sounding Metal band. These guys have a very atmospheric sound that is very melodic. The music is slow & a bit dramatic sounding as well. They have an almost Classical vibe happening through out the music too. The vocals are done in a mid ranged clean & melodic almost creepy Goth spoken word style. They reminded me a bit of the way MOBY sings on his slower songs. | SHIT OUTTA LUCK - FAMILY TRADITION (7 track CD) ORGANIZED CRIME RECORDS This is the debut release from this Milwaukee, Wisconsin based band. these guys add in lots of influences into their brand of gritty dirty Metal music. they add in lots of Southern Rock, Stoner Metal, 70's Metal, Sludge, Doom, Death & Hardcore. These guys mix it up & pour it out! There are lots of crunchy & scratchy guitar sounds like CLUTCH, MOTORHEAD, FIREBALL MINISTRY & KYUSS. There are some lower end dirty thumbing bass & drum sounds to accompany all this as well. The vocals remind me of CLUTCH mixed with MOTORHEAD & a little bit of THE MELVINS at times. These guys have a very strong aggressive & hard hitting New York Hardcore sound that reminds me a lot of bands like SHEER TERROR, SICK OF IT ALL & MADBALL. | THE ACCURSED - SEASONS OF THE SCYTHE (13 track CD) LOCOMOTIVE RECORDS / SCREAMING FERRET RECORDS THE ACCURSED emerge from the depths of New Bedford, Mass. & play a melodic style of Thrash Metal music. These guys have a good balance between classic Thrash Metal & modern Thrash Metal elements in their sound. The guitar work reminds me of old SLAYER at times mixed with some bits of MEGADETH & TESTAMENT! The vocals are done in a bit of a harsher style of Thrash Metal with blends of Death Metal growls mixed within. I really got heavily into the underground scene with bands playing this style of music so I was really enjoying these guys a lot! | THE AUTUMN OFFERING - FEAR WILL CAST NO SHADOW (11 track CD) VICTORY RECORDS The Daytona Florida natives are back with their new crushing third album. This time they have recruited a new singer & a new drummer. But don't worry, these guys haven't change much, except for the fact that they have gotten better. The music is still very high adrenaline unduced all through out Metal with lots of melodic hooks inter mixed. They have taking a more Metal approach this time with fast catchy guitar riffs, pulse pounding drum beats, thick thumping bass beats & a well rounding mix of Metal styles in the vocals. They have some harsh Thrash like vocals, with some clean melodic ones & then some anger filled Death growls. | TOWPATH - DEMO 1995 (11 track CD) Self Released This is a re-release of this band out of New York's 1995 demo originally only released on cassette. The first 8 tracks are from the demo & the last 3 are from an unreleased demo in 1996. These guys play cold harsh & raw sounding Death Metal music. There are some touches of Hardcore, Grindcore & Punk mixed within their sound as well. These guys also add in horns, scratching & synths to really make them stand out from a lot of bands out there. The vocals are done in a mid ranged Hardcore/Death Metal crossover scream & growl style. | V:28 - VIOLUTION (9 track CD) VENDLUS RECORDS V:28 is a Norwegian Industrial Death Metal band that started back in 2002. These guys have released two other records in a trilogy, with this being the final chapter. This trilogy deals with the end of humanity & the deconstruction of the planet! These guys have a very dark, errie & cold feel to their music. The music is based in Death Metal that is blended with Industrial, but has lots of injections of Black Metal all through out. The songs are a bit haunting in feel as well. The vocals are done in a cold harsh throaty Black metal type growl style. This is a great band that I see & hear a lot about, but I don't see or hear enough about this band. A band on this level should be a lot more popular than they are!!! www.V28.com |
