| ESTROGENOCIDE - SELF TITLED (7 song CD) M.H. RECORDS Well, I wasn't expecting this! This band plays some very strange Elektronica & Experimental music. They do toss in some elements of Industrial & even some Death Metal at times. I liked the rhythm & grooves the music had. I even dug the strange & bizarre sounds inter twind within the music. Some songs are "Your Bloody Anus Makes Me Laugh", "Kick That Cunt In The Cunt", "Genital Mutilation" & more. These guys aren't your typical band from Brazil either. These guys play very well structured Power Metal with lots of elements of Progressive Metal tossed in. I never was a big Power Metal fan, but the more bands I hear, the more I'm getting into it. ETERNA is another band that has made me more of a fan of this style. They have a good strong mixture of heavy rhythm & melody. The vocals are done in a clean melodic Power Metal style which hit the low end as well as the high! This is a great Power Metal band & I will now seek out their first two releases!!! - ETERNA@ETERNA.art.br / www.ETERNA.com.br ETERENAL RUIN - SELF TITLED (6 song CD) Formed out of the bowels of Greenscastle Pennsylvania (now based in Maryland) comes this very good Death Metal act! These guys are really heavy, intense & very brutal sounding. They have an old school meets new school Death Metal style. The music sometimes has a slight Grindcore vibe witin the guitars. The vocals are done in a mid ranged deep Death Metal growl mixed with a higher Grindcore type scream. These guys are great & I can't wait to check out more stuff from them! - 1349 SALEM AVE. / APT. I really enjoyed this disc a lot! These guys play very, very good symphonic Black Metal music. I've never heard a Black Metal band like this before. They have a strong technical style & sound that is very avantgarde dark melodic & very atmospheric. Sometimes they add in touches of Techno music within the rhythms. I loved this disc! The vocals are done in a few styles also. There are Gothic like melodic vocals mixed with low Death growls & high Black Metal screams. This is a must for all fans of Finnish Black Metal!!! - www.FINNUGOR.ini.hu FURTHERMORE - SHE AND I (12 song CD) TOOTH AND NAIL RECORDS I was actually surprised to find these guys on TOOTH & NAIL RECORDS, that usually release Hardcore & Death Metal type releases. These guys play some very hyper & very cool Hip-Hop music. This is in no way your typical Hip-Hop music though. Each song has a completely different style & sound to it! Some of it is spacey, some Techno, some Hardcore, some Punk Rock & so on! This is a very artistic & intellegent Hip-Hop album. I really got into this disc a lot as well. It was very Hip-Hop, but had kind of a Punk Rock vibe through out the whole thing. These guys reminded me of THE GOATS mixed with BECK & CRYSTAL METHOD. Check out this band even if your not into this style. Your gonna like it!!! - www.FURTHER-MORE.com GORDIAN KNOT - EMERGENT (8 song CD) SENSORY This is an instrumental CD release that features members of CYNIC, YES, KING CRIMSON, GENESIS & FATES WARNING! I was enthralled by this disc & totally got sucked in. The music is a blend of Metal & Rock with some Fusion as well. This is amazing. The music is very technical & intwinds atmospheric, spacey, melodic, techno & classical sounds all together. There is no way to describe this & get the full understanding with out actually hearing it. If your into very well played Progressive Metal you will love this disc!!! - P.O. These guys play some very intense Death Metal music that's blanketed with tons of Black Metal music. They have a dark warkult type feel to their sound. This is some hate filled Black Metal at it's best! The vocals are done in a mid ranged groggy & harsh Black Metal growl/scream style! This is by far their heavist sickest & most impressive release so far. These guys have been unleashing their symphonic musical mayhem since 1995. Their music is very technical, progressive & very driving. I loved all the mixed up tempo changes & pure aggression pouring from this band. They toss in lots of majestic & powerful atmospheres as well. The vocals are a mix of strong melodic clean male vocals & harsh Black Metal type vocals. These guys are amazing & are sure to please any Black Metal fan!!! - NEDRE LIAVEI 35 / N-3080 HOLMESTRANA / NORWAY / contact@GRANDALCHEMIST.com / www.GRANDALCHEMIST.com GRAYSCALE - WHEN THE GHOSTS ARE GONE (9 song CD) SOUND RIOT RECORDS Here we have a very talented & impressive Gothic Metal band out of Finland! These guys have lots of influences of other Finnish Metal bands, but sound a lot different. There is a huge orchestrated type feel in their sound, like there are 100 musicians in the band. They toss in elements of Black Metal, Death Metal, Doom & Gothic. There is a dark damp cold atmosphere through out the whole disc as well. I like how the music gave a depressive down vibe. The vocalist kind of reminded me of Burton from FEAR FACTORY, just a lot more Goth sounding. This is another great release put out by SOUND RIOT RECORDS!!! - HIIDENPOLKU 2c9 / 50970 MIKKELI / FINLAND / GRAYSCALEcrew@hotmail.com / http://listen.to/GRAYSCALE HONEY FOR CHRIST - FORGING IRON WILL (3 song CD) I was kind of surprised when I popped this disc in. From the music alone I was expecting a Thrash Death Metal band. Once the vocals popped in it changed the whole sound of the band. As said above, the music itself has a strong Thrash Metal sound to it with some Power or Progressive Metal elements tossed in. The vocals are done in a melodic Power Metal style or Traditional Metal style. They reminded me of a lot of the New Wave bands in the 80's just sung a little faster. There are some slight touches of Black Metal in the music at times, but not much. The guitars are really crunchy sounding. The vocals are done in a really raw & harsh Grindcore mixed with Black metal style. I loved how they go from all out aggressiveness into some powerful & technical sounds. The majority of the music is hyper fast & non stop adrenalized, but they do toss in the occassional slow part along with some breakdowns. The vocals are done in a hard mid ranged Death Metal growl with a higher pitched Death growl accompanying it at times.
