| ADDER - LET IT RIP! (6 track CD) Self Released ADDER is a young band from my area & play some incredibly good Metal music. They take some influences from 90's Metal & smash it together with some Metal of today's sound. I can hear some grooved oriented riffs with some all out blasting & spastic beats. There music has an all around Metal sound that just about every Metal fan will enjoy. The vocals are also done in a few styles of Metal too. They have some heavy clean 90's type vocals with some lower end Death Metal growls along with some higher pitched Metal screams. | AIDEN - CONVICTION (11 track CD) VICTORY RECORDS AIDEN is probably one of the best notacible bands & most successful bands on VICTORY in such a short time. They have only been with them since 2004 & have taken the world over. These guys have a bit of a different sound than most of their bands though. These guys play some radio friendly Rock music, but there is a harder darker edge to their music than your typical band of this style. These guys have a more New Wave Rock sound that takes you back to bands like JOY DIVISION, THE CURE & more. They also have some darker sides like MARILYN MANSON. The vocals also follow the same style as the music. If you haven't heard these guys by now, you must be already dead! |
| ART 238 - EMPIRE OF THE ATOM (10 track CD) OPEN GRAVE RECORDS Wow! These guys are amazing, from start to finish! Hailing from France comes this two piece monster known as ART 238. These guys play Grindcore music melted together with Death Metal & topped off with lots of Industrial flavoring. The music is hyper fast & highly intense all through out. There are some feirce attacks of aggression within their sound. I like how they placed samples mixed in their songs a lot. It breaks up the music & keeps them sounding fresh! The vocals are done in a harsh mid ranged Death/Grindcore style with some occasional mid ranged Industrial vocals. | BEREAVEMENT - THE ADVENT OF LOSS (8 track CD) Self Released BEREAVEMENT formed in 2005 from the ashes of the band ENAMORED. These guys hail from my home state & play a wide variety of Metal styles. They like to mix the lighter & darker sides of Metal together to form their sound. There are many elements from Thrash, Power, Death, Doom & Black Metal all present in their sound. These guys blend these styles together with such ease! The vocals also go down the same path as the music. | BLUES - SNAKEPIT (11 track CD) CORROSIVE RECORDINGS Blasting out of Arizona in 2004 this Hardcore band is ready to take on anything. They have a very modern Hardcore sound that adds in touches of Metal & Mathcore along with some straight up Rock n Roll elements too. There music is very energetic & in your face sounding with lots of aggression pouring out of it! They do toss in some very cool guitar riffs & grooves that reminded me a bit of CLUTCH at times. The vocals are very powerful & harsh Hardcore screams that just peirce through you, but in a good way that leaves you with wanting more! These guys blew me away with their first release & this new one has done it again. The music is very technical driven Prog Rock mixed with lots of Power Metal elements. There is a lot of catchy riffs & grooves all through out their songs as well. The vocals are done in a mid to high ranged powerful & melodic clean Metal style. The band is made up of members of some great bands such as PATHOGEN, MAXIMUM PERVERSION, THE FUROR, PERFECTING THE TORMENT, PESTILENTIAL SHADOWS & HATED BY HUMANITY. | ECHOSILENCE - DISTORTED HORIZON (4 track CD) NAILBOARD RECORDS I don't know much about this band at all. This is my first experience hearing them, but I liked what I heard. They play a melodic & atmospheric style of Power Metal with some touches of Prog Rock & Traditional Heavy Metal. The songs take you on a magical journey with lots of Epic sounding parts. The music also has a some what fantasy vibe to it too. These songs are well structure & have a lot of depth to them. The vocals are female & done very majestical & melodic. There are lots of different paths the listener is taken on while listening to this band. If you'd like to go on this voyage, then buy this album! You will enjoy it!!! |

It's fast, raw, aggressive & smacks you in the face repeatedly. There are some slight elements of Thrash Metal in the guitar sound at times. | EXTREME METAL INSIDE - 5 WAY SPLIT (10 track CD) SG METAL This is a 5 way split CD showcasing 5 Italian Metal bands, put out by the Italian webzine & promotional agency SG METAL. The bands featured here include: AGABUS, ANTAGONISM, CLINICAMENTE MORTI, NECROFILI & RESURRECTURIS. All bands featured have 2 songs each & 2 pages in the booklet with all contact info & biographies. The bands here are all in the Metal range obviously, but some add in touches of Death, Grind, Thrash, Hardcore & Speed Metal to their sound. These guys play a mixture style of Pop Punk & Hardcore music. They ahve a strong California Pop Punk style to their sound. The music is well balanced with mixtures of melody & mayhem. The music has mostly an upbeat sound that is very driving. I liked the cool grooves the have embedded into their songs. The vocals are done in a mid ranged Pop Punk melodic singing with some Hardcore screams at times. These guys are just starting out, but by the sounds of this album they will be around for a long time!!! | FRANKENBOK - MURDER OF SONGS (10 track CD) PRIME CUTS MUSIC These guys have been around since 1997 & don't seem to have let up one bit. They play an all out hell bent style of Thrash Metal music with loads of Speed & Death Metal elements peircing through out their sound. The music is very tight, slick & fast paced all through out. I love the fact that they use lots of Thrash Metal sounds, but use lots of Death Metal vocals too. This band reminds me of why loved this style of music when I got into it in the late 80's & early 90's. This is great all around Thrash Metal music at it's best. | GORESOERD - GOREMARKET MID PRICES (17 track CD) NAILBOARD RECORDS Hailing from Estonia comes this great group filled with many experienced local musicians. This is the bands second release & is a brutal onslaught of Grindcore at it's best. The music is very heavy, hard hitting Grindcore, but adds in some touches of Crust & Hardcore along the way. They also toss in some grooves from time to time to break up some of the fast paced madness. The vocals are done in amid ranged almost Death Metal growl style with some higher pitched Grindcore growls & screams. These guys have carved a name for themselves & are doing so again. This time the band goes down a little different path. They still have their traditional Pagan Black Metal elements, but have expanded a little this time around. They have added in some more atmospheric & majestic Black Metal passages. There is more experimentation in the vocals as well. The vocals are done in an old school Black metal style with some harsh, dark growls, mid ranged growls, clean Black Metal vocals & some melodic almost spoken word type growls too. | METSATOLL - TERAST MIS HANGUND ME HINGE (10 track CD) NAILBOARD RECORDS This is my first time hearing this amazing band. These guys have an Epic Viking sound that i dig a lot. The vocals are sung in another language, but I'm not sure which language. The band has a very triumping sound that reminds me of Viking going into battle. I like the way the music is very driven & has a good groove all through out as well.The vocals are done in a mid ranged melodic almost Power Metal style, but more like Traditional Metal. These guys reminded me of bands like IN EXTREMO, THERION & SKYCLAD a lot. This release came out in 2005, but was just sent to me recently, so that's why it is getting reviewed now!!! |
| METSATOLL - HIIEKODA (18 track CD) NAILBOARD RECORDS / HYPER RECORDS I believe this is the newer release of these two from METSATOLL. Once again these guys have a very Epic Viking Metal sound to their music, with lots of worldly styles & sounds mixed through out. The music has more of a Progressive Metal feel on this release with some Thrash & Traditional Metal influences mixed in. The vocals once again are sung in another language & done in a melodic Traditional Metal style. The songs seemed to be better thought out & better structured on this disc, not to say, that the other disc wasn't amazing! As said above, if your into bands like THERION, IN EXTREMO & SKYCLAD, then you'll love these guys! I know I did!!! |
| MUST MISSA - THE TARGET OF HATE (8 track CD) NAILBOARD RECORDS Here is yet another great band from this label that i am hearing for the first time. These guys play some very, very cool old school styled Thrash Metal. It reminds me of a lot of the German Thrash Metal that came out in the 80's, but with a bit of a heavier edge to it. There are lots of all out shredding & grooves through out their songs. Sometimes their music reminded me of ANTHRAX a bit from the "AMONG THE LIVING" album. The vocals are done in a mid ranged a bit rough Thrash vocal style. If you were to mix elements of ANTHRAX, SODOM, DESTRUCTION, WRATHCHILD AMERICA together you'd get these guys! These guys continue with what they had on the last album, but take it to the next level. They still have that classic Thrash Metal style, but have sped things up a bit & gotten much heavier. There are more elements of Black Metal present, not your typical atmospheric Black Metal, but your balls out blasphemous old school Black Metal. | NITROUS - DOMINANT FORCE (11 track CD) NAILBOARD RECORDS Yet another very cool band from NAILBOARD RECORDS. These guys play a mixture of Moder & Classic Thrash Metal music. The music has some elements of Death Metal tossed in the mix at times too. I really liked the fast paced, heavy shredding guitar sound mixed with the fast paced solid drum beats. There are some very cool grooves & change ups within their songs too. The vocals are done in a mid ranged Thrash, almost Death Metal crossover style. These guys sound like a combined style of ENTOMBED TESTAMENT, LIFE OF AGONY, SLAYER & PANTERA! That's a good combination, huh? Now check them out!!! |
| ONE STEP BEYOND - BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL (15 track CD) Self Released Wow! This was quite a big surprise from this band. The bands first CD "LIFE IMITATES ART" was really good, but this one has blown that one away in all aspects. The band hails from Australia & plays some very cool, hyper fast Death Metal music, but add in lots of flares of other styles. There are some elements of Rock, Funk & Dub all present inteir sound too. I really dig this a lot, because it makes them sound very diverse, fresh & original. The vocals are done in a mid ranged Death growl style with some higher screaming Grindcore type vocals. I like the fact that there is a strong driving sound all through out the disc. These guys are true vetrans in the music industry & they show how much they have achived with this new release. | PSYCHOMANCER - BUTCHERED (9 track CD) ROTTING CORPSE RECORDS With a name like PSYCHOMANCER would you expect anything but some sick, heavy & brutal Death Metal music. These guys play Death Metal music, but add in some Thrash & Black Metal touches to the mix. There are some really fast paced & heavy Thrash Metal guitar shredding parts, with some fast almost blast beat Black Metal drum parts. The vocals are done in a mixture of styles too. These guys have unleashed yet another extremely good crossover album that will become a classic in this field just like their last releases. They take many elements from Thrash, Power, Death & progressive Metal & combine them together to create & very beautiful & controled chaotic sound. I liked the fact that each style is in every song & melts together seemlessly with such ease. There is much depth & variety to this band, but all staying in the Metal genres mentioned. | TANGORODRIM - JUSTUS EX FIDE VIVIT (6 track CD) SOUTHERN LORD RECORDS If you wanted to hear some pure, unholy Black Metal, then look no further. These guys hail from Israel & play just that. The music has a very dingy old school Black Metal sound with lots of vicious & hatefilled sounds. There are some very dark, dirty & raw vibes that blanket their sound all through out. They do toss in some almost dirty old school Punk Rock sounds at times too. The vocals are done in a mid to low ranged Black Metal growl style with some occassional screams mixed in. This may not be for every Black Metal fan, but most old school die hard Black Metal hordes would want to get their gritty little hands on this release!!! |

Their music has an old school rawness to it, but there are lots of atmospheric & majestic new schhool Black Metal sounds as well. The music has a lot of twists that shoot you one direction & then pulls you back into another. I liked the balance between the heavy brutal fast stuff & the slower more atmospheric parts. | THARAPHITA - IISETEL SUNKJATEL RADADEL (7 track CD) NAILBOARD RECORDS This is the newest release from THARAPHITA, the one above being from 2005. These guys continued what they did on the last release, but have gotten a bit more aggressive & heavier this time around. They still have their same Black Metal sound, but there seems to be more aggression & rawness on this one. They do have some atmospheric parts mixed in, but they are not as dominate as they were on the release above. The vocals are also more aggressive & rougher sounding. They have more of a heavy battle, war like Black Metal sound this time. Even though both albums are a bit different they both have made me a big fan of this great band!!! This is in no way like any Grunge music you've heard before. They add in elements of Progressive, Trance, Metal & Post Punks sounds as well. Sometimes one style is more dominate than others, while in some songs the sounds are all blended together. These guys have a sound that is reminescent of old school harsh raw Black Metal, but have very untraditional lyrics & beliefs found in the Black metal genre. These guys write about wild forests, unfetted rivers & furious & vengeful nature. The music is very dark low end a dingy sounding, but also has an enthralling sound that sucks you in. The vocals are done ina cold harsh echoing Black Metal style that is some what haunting & chilling. These guys run in a whole different field when it comes to Black Metal. | WITCHES IN BIKINIS - LIVE DVD (DVD) Self Released I got this DVD from Paul Autry of SPOTLIGHT ZINE, who turned me onto this band. This band is different than most of the stuff I review, but I like stuff like this! WITCHES IN BIKINIS is a 60's styled Rock band with lots of Theatrical aspects too. There is a 4 man band, but 6 beautiful "WITCHES IN BIKINIS" that sing the songs & perform the live stage stuff. The music has the sound of 60's surf & musical type music. If you were to mix together girl group, beach parties, low budget 60's horror flicks & Russ Meyer's films together, you'd get this very different & very cool band!
