| BLOODSOAKED - THE DEATH OF HOPE (10 track CD) COMATOSE MUSIC The legendary one man killing machine is back with his third release "THE DEATH OF HOPE". Peter Hasselbrack is the demented mind behind this brutal behemoth known as BLOODSOAKED. He follows down the same path with which we have known him for and that's straight forward brutal Death Metal music. The music is done in a really heavy early 90's influenced Death Metal style. The music is blasting old school beats with some catchy chugging riffage all through out. The vocals are also done in the same vein with some mid ranged harsh Death growls piercing your ears. There is some guitar work done by James Murphy, another legend in the Death Metal scene. | CHUPACABRAS - INCIVILTA (11 track CD) SG RECORDS CHUPACABRAS is an Italian Metal band that has been churning out music since 1997. These guys have gone through some changes over the years but have unleashed a very killer album in "INCIVILTA" that will appeal to many different Metal fans. They play in a more Crossover style than anything else. They take elements from Thrash Metal, which is present in their shredding guitar riffs and grooves, Death Metal, which comes out in a lot of the heavy fast blasting drum attacks and the harsher Death type growls in the vocals. The vocals is also where I hear a lot of Hardcore type influences from the screaming type style they have. Hardcore is also present in the grooved out beats and rhythms in the songs. This is a really cool, fresh and high energy Metalcore band! A huge must for fans of the modern Metal scene! www.CHUPACABRAS.it |
| DYSENTERY - INTERNAL DEVASTATION (14 track CD) COMATOSE MUSIC DYSENTERY are no strangers to the underground Death Metal scene. These guys have been spewing out the brutality since 2002. Now with their debut "INTERNAL DEVASTATION" on COMATOSE MUSIC, the brutality continues. The band has gone through changes over the years and this album shows them at their best. They play an old school style that's reminiscent of a lot of the bands from the early 90's Death Metal scene. There is low ended guttural growls that cut through the low ended chugging Death stomps in every song. They add in some stop and starts, blasts, low ended grooves and screeching and fast paced guitar riffs. This is by far the best the band has giving us so far. | FACE OF OBLIVION - THE EMBERS OF MAN (10 track CD) COMATOSE MUSIC FACE OF OBLIVION out of Minnesota come out full blast and never let up the whole time. "THE EMBERS OF MAN" is the bands debut release and an amazing release at that. They combine the heaviest parts of Death Metal and Grindcore together to create their style. They also take many influences from old school and smash it together with new school influences. There is a blend of old school crunchy grooved out guitars mixed with fast paced, tight & technical arrangements. Then they mesh in some thick drum blasts and cool rhythmic beats. Top all this off with the low ended thick harsh Death growls of former ORIGIN vocalist James Lee. FACE OF OBLIVION is a new fresh take on the brutal Death Metal scene and hopefully will be around for a long time to breath new life into the sometimes stagnant scene! | MEDIOCRITY FOR MOLLUSKS - SELF TITLED (1 track CD) COLLECTIVE BRAND MUSIC MEDIOCRITY FOR MOLLUSKS is a bit different from most of the stuff I get for review. These guys play some really spacey artsy style of Electro or Electronica type music. The music is one long song and just kind of fads from one sound into another. It had a bit of a middle eastern type vibe at times along with some almost haunted house feel. There wasn't any real vocals or anything, just some noises at times. I'm not really into this style of music and would have enjoyed it a little more if it was done at a fast speed. It reminded me of something that people would listen to after taking some drugs and or sitting in some art house somewhere. The recording was done live at The Phoenix Project in Dallas Texas. It might come of better in a live setting with some performance art visuals to accompany the music, but I'm not sure. |
| MODUS DELICTI - NOBODY (9 track CD) COMATOSE MUSIC MODUS DELICTI hailing from Italy was born from the ashes of a previous band called NOBODY. The band with only one founding member left changed their name and style. Clod DeRosa being the main foundation of the band has giving birth to a killer Death Metal act. These guys play old school Death Metal mixed with crushing Grindcore come up a with a new take on the two genres. The music is fast paced, blasting mayhem that just pounds the hell out of you from beginning to end. They toss in the Grindcore influences and repeating shred what is ever left. The low ended Death growls & gurgles round their sound out. These guys have to be one of the better bands to ever emerge out of Italy and especially in the last ten years. I know Italy has given us a lot of great bands over the years, but these guys would definitely sit at the top of that list. Another amazing release from COMATOSE MUSIC as well! | OUT OF MIND - QUE TE PASA (10 track CD) SG RECORDS OUT OF MIND comes from Italy and places it's roots in Punk Rock music. These guys are in no way a typical Punk Rock band though. They add in some stuff to spice up their sound. They take influences from the old school and new school Punk Rock scenes, but add in more. They toss in elements of Ska, Reggae & Electronic into their sound, which helps them stand out a lot from other bands in the same genre. The vocals are done in a more modern up beat Punk Rock style and are all done in Italian. You can hear some touches of bands like MADNESS, BLACK FLAG, MURPHY'S LAW, MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES, BAD BRAINS as well as some newer bands like BLINK-182, GREEN DAY & GOOD CHARLOTTE. | SPLIT TORSO TRAUMA - 5 WAY SPLIT (10 track CD) COMATOSE MUSIC This is a five way split by five bands that play in the brutal Death Metal genre. The bands include the following: ANTHROPOFAGUS, INFECTED FLESH, PUTRIDITY, PRION &MASS INFECTION. The bands hail from Italy, Argentina, Spain & Greece. Each band on the release gets two songs each. The bands all play heavy as hell Death Metal music with influences of Grindcore mixed within. I have always liked split & compilation release so I can be exposed to new bands. I have never heard any of the bands on this release before, but now have five new bands I will be searching for more music from. I'm not sure if they have any releases on COMATOSE MUSIC, but if not, hopefully they will put out some full lengths from these great bands. All these bands are killer and deserve much attention! | SUTUANA - ARABA FENICE (12 track) SG RECORDS SUTUANA is an Italian Hard Rock / Metal outfit. These guys have a very clean and crisp sound. The music is very well structured and arranged with some strong Classic Rock influences. The band does add in some elements that are found in a lot of Modern Rock bands as well. In some of the faster & heavier parts you can hear some elements of Traditional Heavy Metal also. The band has a energetic vibe that you would find in a lot of bands on modern Rock radio stations today. The vocals are done in a melodic clean and powerful style and all the lyrics are done in Italian. I could see fans of Progressive Rock and Classic Rock really enjoying these guys a lot. | VELOCIDAD ABSURDA - REBORN FOR THE EXTERMINATION (9 track CD) HECATOMBE RECORDS Crawling out of the depths of Spain is the brutal Death Grind band known as VELOCIDAD ABSURDA. Born back in 1997 and then disbanded in 2004, but reborn back in 2008 the band finally unleashes their newest slab of Death Metal brutality. These guys mix old school Death Metal with old school Grindcore. The music is raw, gritty and heavy as Hell. Your eardrums will be shredded to bloody bits when you get done with the Death Grind masterpiece. Blasts, chugs, breakdowns, churning grooves and more fill this chaotic mayhem. Add in some low ended Death gurgles with some high pitch pig squeals and you got a bloody brutal Death dream come true. If you enjoy old school Death Grind then these guys are one of the best doing it out there now. Buy this, Blast this, annoy the neighbors and destroy everything!
