“BONED, BOXED AND BURIED"
For me, a label that’s really been hitting it out of the park, as of late, XTREEM MUSIC
presents us here with the second full length CD by Holland’s NAILGUN MASSACRE.
Musically, its pretty obvious that XECUTIONER and AUTOPSY had a major impact on
these fellows, and, to that end, they have put together a sound that pays proper homage to
such hallowed names. Far from being clones, NAILGUN MASSACRE, as so many
young bands coming up that I have heard these past years, have compiled a sound from
influences that they proudly wear on their sleeves. XECUTIONER and very early
OBITUARY especially. Vocally, John Tardy’s sickened “bleeechhh”-vocals are done here
respectfully and passionately. Rhythmically, I also hear a sublime early UNLEASHED
influence. Thematically and lyrically, NAILGUN MASSACRE, not coincidentally, travel
down the roads of macabre madness, trodden by Death Metal gods like AUTOPSY,
DERANGED (Sweden), and others with a blackened, morbid sense of humor, mixed with
samples and spoken word sections appropriate to the subject matter. Not all morbid jokes
though… The final two tracks, “What’s In The Box” (an intro of sorts, “Marche Funebre”
on solo piano) and “Lower Me Down” are arduously heavy and somber. Giving one the
notion that this band can cover multiple Death Metal sub-genres and do it with ease. I
think we have another no-hitter pitched by XTREEM MUSIC here folks. An
exceptionally interesting and memorable Death Metal ride to be had with NAILGUN
MASSACRE. Fans of XECUTIONER, early OBITUARY and AUTOPSY looking to
satiate their morbid lust, look no further than “BONED, BOXED AND BURIED”.
