ROBOT LORDS OF TOKYO
"VIRTUE & VICE"
ROBOT LORDS OF TOKYO is a crushing Stoner / Sludge / Doom Metal band from
Columbus, Ohio. "VIRTUE & VICE" is the bands third album to date. I have reviewed one
of their releases in the past and always dug what these guys are doing. I'm not the biggest
Stoner Metal fan, but these guys just tear it up and the fact they add in lots of Sludge &
Doom really pulls me in. They have a classic bar band feel that is so strong it can't be
contained in just a bar room setting. They deserve to be playing stadiums just like AC/DC. I
loved the groove out Southern feel they have in the guitars the best. It's as if you combined
the likes of CLUTCH, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, THE SWORD, MOTORHEAD &
KYUSS with some FLEETWOOD MAC, LYNYRD SKYNYRD & ZZ TOP. I know it
sounds like a weird combination to some, but they do it and they do it right. I am a fan of all
the bands above so I was loving it. The core of the band is Rick Ritzler (drums & guitars) &
Paul Jones (Vocals & guitars) with a revolving door of guest msuicians on each release. This
release sees appearances by Chris Poland of MEGADETH, Tracy G. of DIO, Wayne
Findlay of MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP & Steve Theado of AMERICAN DOG.
This is a cool concept that reminds me of Dave Grohl's project PROBOT. They do a very
cool cover of the CINDERELLA classic "Night Songs". ROBOT LORDS OF TOKYO is
one of those bands that when their first release came out, I really expected to be a lot
bigger than they are today. These guys are absolute must for everyone to check out! One of
the best under rated bands out there that deserves way more attention then they are getting!
