SURGEON
"CHEMICAL REIGN"
Self Released

Philadelphia has been home to a lot of killer underground Punk, Hardcore, Thrash & Death
Metal bands over the years, but not Progressive Metal bands. Well,
SURGEON will be the
first band on that list to start this Progressive Metal wave in the Philadelphia area. These
guys have been around for a few years, but are just starting to get some of the recognition
they deserve. They play a combination Progressive style of music. You can hear a lot of
Thrash Metal withing their sound, especially in the faster guitar parts. They also mix in a
lot of Hard Rock, Prog  Rock and even some Doom & Traditional Heavy Metal as well.
The song arrangements is where a lot of the late '70's Prog Rock comes into play, while the
more modern Hard Rock is present in the sound. The Doom elements are present in the
darker slower parts, but there is a strong heaviness that blankets their sound as well. I like
the thick grooved out bass that runs through their sound a lot. The vocals is more of where
I hear a lot of the more Traditional Heavy Metal & Hard Rock coming in with some slight
touches of Prog Rock & even some Death Metal. If you were to combine the influences of
RUSH, TWISTED SISTER, CROWBAR, CYNIC, DAATH, FLOTSAM & JETSAM,
MESHUGGAH, BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, ATHEIST
& DREAM
THEATER
, you get some idea of what SURGEON is creating. One truly amazing band,
that is highly talented and deserves much more attention then they are getting!
