SWASHBUCKLE
"WE HATE THE SEA"
GET THIS RIGHT RECORDS

New Jersey's Thrashing Pirates, SWASHBUCKLE are back with a new four song 7"
vinyl release. The band was established in 2005 and has really built a name for
themselves. The first time I heard of them was on the Pagan Fest Tour when I was living
in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They are from New Jersey, so I am not sure if they were
on the entire tour that year or just the East Coast part. Anyway, They are a three piece
Metal band that, you guessed it, dresses like pirates and all their lyrics are Pirate related.
I know most people think this is a joke, but the same thing happened with the Corpse
Paint for Black Metal and the Viking thing with Pagan / Folk Metal. I think when they
started it was kind of a humorous thing, but as the band grew they got more serious.
They started out as more of a straight up Thrash Metal type band, but with "I HATE
THE SEA" they have ventured into new waters by adding in lots more Death Metal
influences. The drums have gotten a lot faster and heavier. The guitars still have that high
speed adrenaline rush and groove of Thrash Metal, but it's a little heavier and grittier like
Death Metal. The vocals is where I hear more of the Death Metal coming into play too.
They are a little lower ended and done in a growling / screaming Death style, but you can
understand what they are saying. I love this new direction of the band, because Death &
Thrash are my two favorite styles of Metal and these guys have conquered it. This
release came out in 2014 and the band was supposed to have a new release out by now.
Don't know what the cause of delay was, but I hope they have sunk or hit dry land. I
want to see these guys keep sailing. If you don't dig the Pirate thing, still give these guys
a chance, because they are highly talented and can stand with some of the great bands out
there now. For fans of
DEBAUCHERY, ENTOMBED, TESTAMENT, EXODUS,
HAVOK, ALESTORM, MUNICIPAL WASTE, TOXIC HOLOCAUST
&
NUCLEAR ASSAULT
! Simply a great band all around!!!
