THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT (UR) MGM / UA HOME ENTERTAINMENT (1972)
Starring: David Hess, Sandra Cassel, Lucy Grantham, Fred J. Lincoln, Jeramie Rain & more.
Most Horror fans out there know this is a classic Horror film that is more disturbing and frightening than almost every other Horror flick that has come out since. The film was directed by Wes Craven who later went on to do A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET & SCREAM amongst many others. The film plays out almost like a cruel and unsettling snuff film. On the night before her seventeenth birthday Mari & Phyllis are going to a concert in New York to see and underground band called BLOODLUST. They want to try and score some weed for the concert. They meet up with a guy who says he can get them some. They go with him back to a hotel room. When they arrive there are some other people there. What Mari & Phyllis don't know is that they are escape convicts who are on the run. The guys subdue the girls and rape them. They later put them in the trunk of their car as they try to head to Canada. Along the way they have some trouble with their car and need to hide from the cops who are looking for them. They head into the woods and proceed to humiliate, torture and rape the young girls. Phyllis attempts to escape and the capture her and stab her to death. Then Mari tries to escape and they shoot her and leave her for dead. They are now on the run again and hold up a house that is close by. The couple in the house let them stay the night. The woman over hears them talking about the girls and decide to take matters into their own hands. This film had a surprise ending when it first came out and most people probably know what it is, even if they haven't seen the film. They made a remake of this film, which I liked a lot, but thought the original was a lot more gritty and disturbing. When you watch this film, just keep telling yourself "It's Only A Movie"!
