| A PERFECT GETAWAY (R) ROGUE PICTURES (2009) Starring: Steve Zahn, Timothy Olyphant, Milla Jovovich, Kiele Sanchez Marley Shelton & more. Steve Zahn & Mila Jovovich are newlyweds who are set out to enjoy a perfect honeymoon in Hawaii. While there, they run into a pair of menacing hikers who try to latch on to their little vacation. They try to avoid them while hiking through the woods. They keep meeting up with them & they taunt them. They find out that there are a couple out there killing other couples on vacation. Things start out really slow for about the first half of the movie then the intensity kicks in. There is a twist to the film, but it's a bit easy to figure out, cause I called it before I even saw the film, just by the trailer alone. It was still a decent film, especially because of Steve Zahn & Milla Jovovich both in roles they don't usually play! www.APREFECTGETAWAY.net |
| CARVED: THE SLIT MOUTHED WOMEN (R) TARTAN VIDEO (2007) Starring: Eziko Sato, Haruhiko Kato, Chiharu Kawai, Rie Kuwana, Kazuyuki Matsuzawa & more. In a small community in Japan little children have started disappearing. The locals have been acting strange, because of an old tale they heard from decades ago. The story is of a young women who wears a surgical mask & ask people "Am I Pretty?" before she slaughters them. The vengeful spirit of this woman has returned & is now slaughtering all the children in the area. The adults are trying to stop this women & figure out why she has gone on this killing spree. This was a pretty creepy Japanese horror flick & one of the better ones out there. If you dig other flicks from the TARTAN VIDEO collection then you'll dig this one! |
| EDEN LAKE (R) WEINSTEIN COMPANY (2008) Starring: Kelly Reilly, Michael Fassbender, Tara Ellis, Jack O'Connell, Finn Atkins & more. Jenny & Steve are a young couple in love who are engaged. They want to celebrate & go for a calm lakeside getaway. They arrive at the lake & start having a great enjoyable time. Further done the lakeside a bunch of rowdy kids show up & start partying. The couple tries to continue to have a fun romantic time until the kids start of their stuff & trash their truck by smashing the windows & slashing the tires. They start to fight back with the kids & they start to get really violent. There is a lot of crazy things going on here & it's really intense. This is one of the stories from the SHOWTIME series MASTERS OF HORROR. This story was done by John McNaughton who did HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER based on a Clive Barker tale. The story is based on a young medical student who is obsessed about raising the dead. He comes to a small house & asked if he can stay the night. He soon uncovers the truth about the young women & older man who live there. The young seductress has an erotic taste for the undead. Her master is a necromancer who has the power to resurrect the dead. This was a very creepy & bizarre flick, but what else would you expect from the great Clive Barker. www.MASTERSOFHORROR.net |
| MIRRORS (R) 20TH CENTURY FOX (2008) Starring: Kiefer Sutherland, Paula Patton, Cameron Boyce, Erica Gluck, Amy Smart & more. Kiefer Sutherland stars in this super natural thriller movie. He is a security guard for a burned out department store building before the owners can come & clean it out & demolish the building. There are huge mirrors all over the building where some strange bizarre things keep happening in them. The mirrors are a gateway for the people who were burned alive within the store. They are coming back & pulling people through the mirrors & killing them. They were originally trapped within the stores building, but have found a way to travel through anything that will give a reflection & start spreading out through out the city killing people. He doesn't want to lose his girlfriend & uses this ancient book of Steve and Amy are boyfriend & girlfriend who are madly in love with each other. They have a great relationship magic to bring her back to life. He revives her, but she comes back as a zombie. She starts to become hungry for flesh & starts eating anyone she can. He tries to keep his neighbors & friends from finding out about her & keep her from killing & eating them. This is a low budget Horror flick with a touch of comedy. | TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 (R) ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT (1986) Starring: Dennis Hopper, Caroline Williams, Bill Moseley, Bill Johnson, Ken Evert & more. Dennis Hopper is a Texas Ranger who is out for revenge on the Hewitt family because his son was killed by them in the original films. A local DJ catches them on tape when they were killing two guys who called the radio station & were still on the air. Then Leatherface & Chop Top head to the radio station to kill the DJ. They kill her radio partner & kidnap her. They take her back to their new slaughterhouse that is underneath an abandoned amusement park in the middle of nowhere. Dennis Hopper goes all psycho on them & fights it out chainsaw to chainsaw. Most sequels really stink, especially done so many years after the original. I really love this film a lot because it's given us one of the greatest Horror character ever & that's Chop Top! Leatherface & Chop Top together make this film a cult classic! If you haven't seen this film it's a must for any Horror fan! |
| THE COLLECTOR (R) FREESTYLE RELEASING (2009) Starring: Madeline Zima, Andrea Roth, Josh Stewart, Juan Fernandez, Daniello Alonso & more. on vacation for a few weeks, so the contractor gets an advance on his pay. Once he visits his ex-wife & daughter he finds out she owes lots of money to a lot of people. He tells her he will help her out. He decides he is going to break into the wealthy families house & steal from their safe. He breaks into the house & starts hearing noises. He expects someone else is in the house. He quickly finds out there is a man in the house that has the whole family captive. He tries to save the family from THE COLLECTOR, who collects people & tortures them. This was done by some of the guys who did the SAW movies. You can tell while watching it cause it had that feel. This film was part of the first season of the MASTERS OF HORROR series. The film takes the history of our first president George Washington, the celebrated father of our country & makes him out to be a homicidal maniac. The tale follows back through the history of Washingtons family tree. A new couple moves into a small town & they start noticing strange things happening. Some people start disappearing & they try to figure out what is happening. The wife ends up disappearing as well so the husband starts searching for her. He soon discovers that there is a group of people that call themselves "THE WASHINGTONIANS". | VACANCY 2: THE FIRST CUT (R) SONY PICTURES (2008) Starring: Agnes Bruckner, David Moscow, Scott G Anderson, Arjay Smith, Trevor Wright & more. This is the sequel to the original film, but it actually takes place before the other film. It's supposed to show you how these guys got started with the killing they did in the original film. The guys that worked at the Motel were secretly video taping the guest & watching them. They catch a guy on film having sex with a young lady, then he starts beating her & then eventually kills her too. They start freaking out & don't know what to do. The guys finds out that they know & convinces them to work with him. He will lure the people in & torture & kill them, while they video tape it. Then they sell the videos on the black market. This young couple discovers it & they try to get the authorities involved, but come to find out they have a part in the whole thing as well. This was a decent film by itself, but doesn't have a lot to do with the first film. |
