HORROR MOVIE REVIEWS
(February 2012)
CARNIVAL OF SOULS (REMAKE) (R) TRIMARK (1998)
Starring: Bobbie Phillips, Shawnee Smith, Larry Miller, Paul Johansson, Cleavant Derricks & more.
This is a remake of the 1962 classic film done by Horror legend Wes Craven. This remake is slightly different
from the original, but still has the same basic concept. A child named Alex witnesses his mother get raped and
murdered by a circus clown named Louis Seagram. The clown eventually gets put behind bars for the horrific
crime he committed. Even though it's years later and the man is still behind bars, Alex continues to have terrible
nightmares about the clown the crimes he witnessed. The nightmares get more intense and twisted and the lines
between nightmare and reality become blurred. Has Seagram returned and out for the kill and is Alex looking to
get revenge. This film is pretty decent and has a feel of a an 80's type Horror film, plus it stars genre favorite
Shawnee Smith who later stared in the SAW films.
MEAT MARKET (UR) FRONTLINE FILMS (2000)
Starring: Bettina May, Paul Pedrosa, Teresa Simon, Chelsey Arentsen, Cam Pipes & more.
The media has been covering a bizarre chain of deaths happening through out the city. Two friends who were
former employees of a chemical company that used to conduct medical experiments start to figure out what is
going on. It's not animal attacks that the media thinks it is. It turns out that it is Zombies caused by the
company experimenting on people. The Zombies eventually take over the city and they must find a way to
survive. They team up with some Vampire women, a washed up Mexican wrestler, a wounded soldier and a
crazed scientist. They all put their "skills" together to fend off the Zombies. This was a very very low budget
Horror flick that had a great concept, but was done almost like a bunch of friends with decent equipment doing a
home movie. It has a lot of the great things that make you love Horror films though. This is one for die hard
Horror fans only!

RING AROUND THE ROSIE (R) HOLLYWOOD MEDIA BRIDGE (2006)
Starring: Gina Phillips, Tom Sizemore, Jenny Mollen, Randall Batnkoff, Frances Bay & more.
Gina Phillips (
JEEPERS CREEPERS) is sent to clean out her family's mountain estate by her ailing
Grandmother. Her boy friend accompanies her in the trip and to help her liquidate the assets. Once they arrive
they are greeted by a man who claims he is the care taker of the home, stables and property. As they go through
the belongings in the house they start to uncover some of the families past secrets. As they spend more time in
the house things start to get strange. They just want to finish up and get out of there. The problem is that they
may never escape. This film is more of a mixture of a Horror / Thriller film than a straight up Horror flick. Tom
Sizemore always comes of great as a crazy weird character and Gina Phillips is another fan favorite in the
Horror genre. A pretty cool film that has been over looked and deserves to be viewed.
SNUFF (NR) KILLING JOKE FILMS (2008)
Starring: Larry C, Brubaker, Todd Cobery, Linda Flanders, Michelle Lekas, Nathan Paulson & more.
SNUFF is a very good documentary that examines if the snuff film is real or just a myth. SNUFF films are
supposed to be a video of someone being killed on film for real. The film delves into where the concept comes
from and contains a bunch of interviews with academics, former FBI profilers, and historians. The film also
shows how the snuff film has connections to war films, pornography, Horror films, serial killers and cult films.
This is a very interesting and some what unsettling documentary that never really uncovers if the snuff film is
real or not and leaves it up to the viewer to decide for themselves.
THE ALPHABET KILLER (R) NEW FILMS INTERNATIONAL (2008)
Starring: Eliza Dushku, Cary Elwes, Timothy Hutton, Michael Ironside, Bill Moseley & more.
THE ALPHABET KILLER is a psychological thriller that is based on true events. The events are of a serial
killer who prayed on young girls in Rochester, N.Y. Eliza Dusku plays a police detective who is on the case. She
is trying to do what ever she can to find and stop this killer before he takes more young girls lives. She is
competing with another police department and is have disturbing visions of the killer and his victims. There is a
psychological battle between her and the killer. This wasn't a bad film, but it was definitely not one of Eliza's
best efforts. She is one of my favorites, but I preferred her in a lot of her other roles. There is some good
performances by other genre favorites like Cary Elwes (
SAW) & Bill Moseley (THE DEVIL'S REJECTS).

THE NEW YORK RIPPER (UR) FULVIA FILM (1982)
Starring: Jack Hedley, Almanta Suska, Howard Ross, Andrea Occhipinti, Alexandrea Delli Colli & more.
THE NEW YORK RIPPER is one of Lucio Fulci's most extreme and cruel films. The movie takes place in a
dirty and gritty New York City during the late 70's, early 80's. It follows the horrific murders of a serial killer of
woman in the city. The police are on the trail of this killer, but he keeps eluding them when ever he can. The
bizarre thing about the killer is he taunts the police and calls them, but he uses a weird voice and quacks like a
duck. That's right, I said quacks like a duck. Viewing it now, makes it seem kind of comical and annoying, but at
the time probably showed more of how demented and mentally disturbed the killer is. There are some pretty
gruesome murder scenes and contains a lot of blood. This is definitely one of Lucio Fulci's better films and one
of the more memorable. Fans of Fulci will have already scene this, but if not it is a must view.
THE SHORTCUT (PG-13) MINDS EYE ENTERTAINMENT (2009)
Starring: Kent Allen, Wendy Anderson, Raymond J. Barry, Jeremy Bastian, Katrina Bowden & more.
THE SHORTCUT is the first film from Adam Sandler's darker production company called SCARY
MADISON
. The film is about a family who moves to a new town. The kids walk to school and they find a
shortcut through the woods on the way. They hear tails from other kids at school about the creepy old man who
lives near the shortcut in the woods. In the 50's  some kids took the shortcut and were never seen again. Now
some of the teens in school want to do their own investigating. This was a big mistake, because they are going to
regret what they find. I wasn't really expecting to like this film, because I thought it was just another PG-13
rated teen Horror film. It may focus on the teens, but it is one of the better ones made in the past 10 years or so.
Stick it out until the end, because the film just gets better as it rolls along.
UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING (R) SCREEN GEMS (2012)
Starring: Kate Beckinsale, Stephen Rea, Michael Ealy, Theo James, India Eisley & more.
The beautiful Kate Beckinsale is back as Selene, the Vampire Death Dealer in this 4th instalment of the
UNDERWORLD series. The film takes place 12 years after the second film where humans are now aware that
Vampires and Werewolves exist amongst us. They have been doing a cleansing of both species to insure the
survival of the human race. Selene awakens frozen in a lab, not knowing what has happened. She eventually
escapes and soon discovers that they have taking her daughter & Michael as well. She sets up to go back and
rescue them and along the way must fight Vampires, Werewolves, Hybrids, a crazed scientist who has created
new creatures and the police. She does get some help along the way. This was yet another killer installment in
the franchise. There is a lot more action than Horror, but still enough to please any Horror fan, plus we get to
see Kate in the skin tight black outfit again. Fans of the rest of the series will love this film!

ZOMBIE GIRL! THE MOVIE (UR) PART OLSON PICTURES (2009)
Starring: Emily Hagins, Megan Hagins, Jerry Hagins, C. Robert Cargill, Tiger Darrow & more.
ZOMBIE GIRL is a documentary that follows 12 year old Emily Hagins as you sets out to make her first full
length feature film called
PATHOGEN. Her inexperience means nothing compared to her drive to create this
Zombie film. The film follows her two year journey through good times and bad, fun & struggles and stressful
times to achieve her goal. The majority of it focuses on Emily and her mom who are pretty much the agents,
producers, crew and cast of the film. It shows all the aspects of true independent film making. She also uses
some other family members and friends in the film as well. It takes you all the way to the premier of her film. If
she has done this much work at age twelve, hopefully she will continue in the industry as she gets older. I
haven't seen the actual film yet, but I am all for anyone who supports, dedicates, promotes and has a love for
the Horror genre!
