HORROR MOVIE REVIEWS (June 2008)
|
BOOGEYMAN 2 (UR) GHOST HOUSE PICTURES (2007)
Starring: Danielle Saure, Matt Cohen, Chrissy Griffith, Tobin Bell, Renee O'Conner & more.
This second edition to this film series has nothing to do with the original film. In this movie a young girl &
her brother witness something very strange that happens to their parents. Years later the girl still is some
help. After she is there for a little while she starts seeing things again. Each of the other patients start getting
killed off one by one. They die in some very disturbing ways & ways that pertain to each of their individual
fears. I actually liked this one better than the first film, because of Tobin Bell from the SAW films being in it
& for the fact that there were a lot of bloody, gory & some original killings to all the victims!
EVENT HORIZON (R) PARAMOUNT PICTURES (1997)
Starring: Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neil, Kathleen Quinlan, Joely Richardson, Richard T Jones & more.
This film takes place in the future & in space. We follow a crew on a ship that is sent out to rescue the crew
of a ship lost in space. There has been no response from the crew aboard so they must dock & board the
ship & bring the crew home. Once on the ship they find some of the crew, but they have been drained of all
their blood. They discover a portal of some sort to another dimension. This is where all the things that have
killed the crew have come from. There are some really slow parts, but the death scenes make up for it with
lots of blood & gore. This is a decent flick that adds some sci-fi to the horror genre!

FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN (R) IMAGE ENTERTAINMENT (1973)
Starring: Udo Kier, Dalila Di Lazzaro, Arno Juerging, Monique Van Vooren, Joe Dallesandro & more.
In this old 1970 horror flick you can't really get the best feel for the film now because it was originally done
in 3D. This is an Andy Warhol film so you know it's not going to be your typical horror flick. Udo Keir is
the head & starts doing sexual & perverted things to the girl. His wife is sleeping with the stable boy who he
eventually kills & then brings back to life as well. The film is slow in spots, but has some cool over the top
gore & sex scenes that were pretty risky for the time, but come off as a bit funny now. This is still a cool
film that should be checked out by fans of classic Horror films!
FRIDAY THE 13TH PARTVI: JASON LIVES (R) PARAMOUNT PICTURES (1986)
Starring: Thom Matthews, Jennifer Cooke, David Kagen, Kerry Noonan, C.J. Graham & more.
Jason is brought back to life in this film by the old Frankenstein method. His corpse is struck by lighting
after some grave robbers dig him up. He then proceeds to return to Crystal Lake & kill a lot of new victims.
This time around though the victims fight back & really start beating the crap out of Jason, but as always &
thankfully, he kills them all in some horrifying & bloody ways. This is one of the better sequels in this
series & the story was a little better than most of the others. I think C.J. Graham was one of the better
people to play Jason, besides Kane Hodder. If you like the other films of this series than you'll dig this one
as well!

FRIGHT NIGHT (R) COLUMBIA PICTURES (1985)
Starring: Chris Sarandon, William Ragsdale, Amanda Bearse, Roddy McDowall & more.
This is considered one of the classic Horror films of the 80's. It has a lot of the same foundations as the rest
of the films of the time, teen that know one believes what he's saying, scared girlfriend that villain wants,
annoying friend, comedy mixed with horror & more. This film does stand out a lot, because it also had a lot
of originality to it too. Anew neighbor moves in town & just happens to be a vampire played by Chris
Sarandon. William Ragsdale is the neighbor who no one believes, but is out to prove it to everyone. He
eventually does prove it & must do battle with the vampire. There is enough comedy & gore to get you
through this & by the end you will see exactly why this is a classic 80's Horror film!
HEART STOPPER (R) ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT (2006)
Starring: Meredith Henderson, Nathan Stephenson, James Binkley, Michael Cram, Robert Englund & more.
Robert Englund is a police officer looking after a murderer who has ended up in the hospital. After a little bit
of time the murdered escapes & starts going on a killing spree within the hospital. Englund goes on the hunt
to find him, but once he does, he wishes he hadn't found him. He starts killing off lots of patients & visitors
in the hospital along with the people working there. He kills them in different ways, but then always rips
their hearts out, which is why he's the Heart Stopper! This was done in the old fashion of 80's styled slasher
Robert Englund play a good guy for once in a Horror film!
HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER (R) MALJACK PRODUCTIONS (1986)
Starring: Michael Rooker, Tracy Arnold, Tom Towles, David Katz, Denise Sullivan & more.
This film is based loosely on the serial killer Henry Lee Lucas. Henry is an ex-con released from prison &
stays with another ex-con friend in an apartment together. The friends sister moves in with them after she
leaves her husband. She starts to fall for Henry because he is very polite & respectful to her, unlike her
brother. He just wants to have sex with her & continually tries to do so. Henry & him go out on a killing
spree, where they pick random victims to kill, just for the thrill & experience. He eventually catches his
friend trying to rape his sister & he kills him. They then head out on the road together & he tries to control
his killing urges. This was a very cool, suspenseful & a little disturbing flick!
NEW YEAR'S EVIL (R) CANNON FILMS (1980)
Starring: Roz Kelly, Kip Niven, Grant Cramer, Chris Wallace, Louisa Moritz & more.
This film tries to capitalize on the whole slasher/holiday craze that was big in the 80's. This one kind of fails
big time, like most of these films. A serial killer calls into a live broadcast music show on New Years Eve.
He says that he is going to kill a new victim every time the clock strikes midnight for each time zone. He
calls in every time with some subliminal clues to where & how he will doing the killings. The cops try to
catch the guy before he can strike, but never get there on time. The killer is really annoying when he makes
the calls & the films really doesn't deliver on the killings as they all happen off screen & they don't show
any blood or gore! Maybe worth one viewing, but not one that would be highly recommended!
RIPPER: LETTER FROM HELL (R) PROPHECY ENTERTAINMENT (2001)
Starring: A.J. Cook, Bruce Payne, Ryan Northcott, Claire Keim, Derek Hamilton & more.
A group of students are taking a course in school based on Jack The Ripper. They have to get in study
groups to do their final project. Of course students are placed together who don't like each other to cause a
little bit of tension. As the students delve deeper into Jack the Rippers history they also find out a lot more
about each other as well. Then one by one the students start getting killed off in fashions that copy some of
the killings of Jack The Ripper. This was done in the style of Teen Horror films. This wasn't that bad for a
low budget flick. There wasn't a lot of gore, but the suspense & mystery of trying to find out who the killer
is really grabs you & pulls you along for the ride!

THE LAST HORROR MOVIE (R) PROLIFIC FILMS (2003)
Starring: Kevin Howarth, Mark Stevensons, Antonia Beamish, Christa Bel Muir, Jonathan Coote & more.
A guy rents a video & decides to tape over it with his own film. After he films the movie he returns it &
follows the person home who rents the film next. He watches her reaction to the tape which contains footage
of himself confessing to things he's done & wants to do. He even starts killing people on film & tries to get
his camera man friend to join in on the action. The film is done in a low budget almost home movie style
which adds to the creepiness of the film. It is a little dry & slow moving in spots, but does pick up at times.
If you like off serial killer B-movies then you'll probably dig this film as well!
