HORROR MOVIE REVIEWS
(May 2011)
BURIED (R) LIONSGATE (2010)
Starring: Ryan Renolds, Jose Luis Garcia Perez, Robert Paterson, Stephen Tobolowsky & more.
Ryan Reynolds is a civilian contractor on a job in Iraq. He gets captured and knocked unconscious. When he
awakes he finds himself buried underground and trapped in a box. He of course, starts freaking out trying to find
some way out. He has nothing but a lighter, candle, cell phone & a knife. He starts trying to call people to come
find him but no such luck. Then he starts getting phone calls from the terrorist who put him in the box. They
start telling to call the government and giving a list of demands. They make him film himself with the phones
camera and send it to the media. The struggle is on to try and save his life. This was a highly claustrophobic and
intense film and probably one of the best performances of Ryan Reynolds career.

DANCE OF THE DEAD (TV-MA) SHOWTIME (2005)

DANCE OF THE DEAD is one of the episodes done for the MASTERS OF HORROR TV show put out by

Things get a little more twisted when one of the corpses turns out to be her dead sister. This is a dark post
apocalyptic Horror flick done by one of the best directors in the genre and stars Mr. Freddy Kreuger himself

DEMONS (NR) DACFILM ROME (1985)
Starring: Urbano Barberini, Natasha Hovey, Karl Zinny, Fiore Argento, Paola Cozzo & more.
A mysterious man hands two girls some free passes to a film playing at a newly renovated Gothic movie
theater. The girls and a bunch of their friends decide to attend the films premiere. The theater gets some other
people to attend as well. Everyone settles in and the film soon starts. It is a Horror flick about some kids
messing around in a cemetery where and ancient curse is released. As the story continues the people in the
theater start turning into possessed demons. The demons start attacking the other people in the theater and
tearing everyone to shreds.  This was a decent flick that I'm sure most of you have seen before since it's been out
for a little while and that it was also directed by the great Italian director Dario Argento.
MACHETE (R) TROUBLEMAKER FILMS (2010)
Starring: Danny Trejo, Robert DeNiro, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal, Michelle Rodriguez & more.
This film was directed by Robert Rodriguez and is based off the fake trailer he made for the
GRINDHOUSE
movie. Danny Trejo plays an ex-fedrale and a vigilante who is hired to assassinate a politician. He teams up with
his buddy who has become a priest to wipe out all these corrupt politicians. Jessica Alba is a detective on
they're  trail following the dead bodies they left behind. She soon teams up with them as well and the blood and
guts start to fly. It's done in the old school style of the Grindhouse films from the 70's. This is a killer flick,
especially since Danny Trejo is the lead. There is a sequel in the works too.

RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE (R) SCREEN GEMS (2010)
Starring: Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Kim Coats, Shawn Roberts, Spencer Locke & more.
Milla Jovovich is back as Alice in this fourth installment in the
RESIDENT EVIL series. This time she and her
remaining crew head out to Los Angeles to find a safe haven for them from the Zombie apocalypse that has
taken over the country. Once they arrive at a prison they think they are safe, especially when they meet up with
another group of survivors. It turns out the basement is filled with Zombies and they must do what they can to
get out alive. I liked this film series, but as the series has gone on it is becoming more of an action series with
Zombies, instead of a Horror franchise with action. Still this is a cool Horror series that I love.

SHADOW PUPPETS (NR) STARZ MEDIA (2007)
Starring: James Marsters, Tony Todd, Marc Winnick, Natasha Alam, Diahnna Nicole Baxter & more.
James Marsters stars in this creepy super natural Horror flick. He is one of eight people who have been captured
and awaken in an abandoned asylum. They don't have any clue where they are or who they are. They roam the
asylum meeting up with more people until all eight are together. They are trying to find a way out of the asylum,
but soon find out there is something hunting them. There is a creature that lurks within the shadows and starts
killing the captured people one by one. This was a little slow at first, but made you feel like you were trapped
along with them. The suspense was intense at times, which keep you watching and waiting to see who would be
the next victim. Horror icon Tony Todd also stars in this flick!
SORORITY ROW (R) SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT (2009)
Starring: Teri Andreejewsky, Adam Berry, Megan Wolfly, Robert Belushi, Rummer Willis & more.
This is a remake of the 1970's film
HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW. The film is a bout a group of sorority
sisters who play a prank on one of the other sisters. When the prank goes horribly bad the girl ends up dead. The
rest of the girls decide to keep it a secret and dump the girls body. A few years later when the girls about to
graduate someone reveals they know what happens. They keep giving away clues and hints to who it might be,
but as each person gets close to finding out who it is they end up dead themselves. This was a decent remake
with it being more updated and not as annoying as the original, but it had the feel of another teen Horror flick and
none of the feel of the 70's version. One of the better remakes out there today, where it comes off better than the
original.
SPLICE (R) DARK CASTLE ENTERTAINMENT (2009)
Starring: Adrien Brody, Sarah Polley, Delphine Chaneal, Brandon McGibbon, Simona Maicanescu & more.
Sarah Polley & Adrien Brody are genetic scientist who are working on  a unique experiment. When the company
funding the experiment tell them to stop working on the project. Secretly the two scientist continue working on
the project. The experiment is splicing human and animal DNA together. The creature they created was dubbed
with the name Dern. Once she comes to life Adrien says she must be destroyed, but Sarah fights to keep her
alive. Dren takes a liking to Dren and soon becomes very closely attached to him. She eventually becomes out of
control and they both fight to find a way to destroy her. This was kind of like
SPECIES, but not as good.
THE CRADLE (NR) GENIUS ENTERTAINMENT (2007)
Starring: Lukas Haas, Emily Hampshire, Amanda Smith, Libby Adams, Trevor Bain & more.
Lukas Hass is a father who is taking care of his wife and son. When both his son and wife become deathly ill, he
must find out what is going on with them and what causes their illness. He uncovers a strange truth to his families
sickness. He finds out that a young child was buried alive on the property where his family lives and they are
now burden with the curse. He must find a way to remove the curse and save his family. This was a really slow
moving film and didn't have too much scary or gory parts at all, but was a little creepy at times. Check this out if
you want, but one viewing is all you will want to see.
VOODOO MOON (TV-14) IDT ENTERTAINMENT (2006)
Starring: Eric Mabius, Charisma Carpenter, Rik Young, Jeffrey Combs, Dee Wallace & more.
Sibling brother and sisters Heather and Cole escape a demonic creatures attack on their home town. Years later
when the brother and sister both go their own ways. Soon strange things start to happen to each and the both of
them are forced to come together. Now they are both obsessed with tracking down this monster and destroying it.
This film was very slow and kind of dragged out a lot. It was also done in a kind of creature, demonic possession
and super natural all rolled into one. The cool thing is that genre icons Jeffrey Combs & Dee Wallace also star in
the film.
