HORROR MOVIE REVIEWS
(November 2009)
BARBARELLA (PG) PARAMOUNT PICTURES (1968)
Starring: Jane Fonda, John Phillip Law, Anita Pallenberg, Milo O'Shea, Marcel Marceau & more.
This is one of those cult movies I have heard so much about for many years, but just now have gotten to see
it. Jane Fonda is a chick who gets abducted by a mad scientist named Durand Durand. She lands in these
many different worlds & runs into many bizarre people. She gets help from some of these people & she
repays them by having sex with them. She then lands on a planet that the queen wants to rule the universe at
any means. The story was a little slow & cheesy, but the movie was a bit ahead of it's time for 1968. The
funny thing is the movie is PG, but there is nudity (Jane Fonda & others) & the theme revolves around sex a
lot. Worth one viewing at least for the cult status of the film!!!
CUBE (R) TRIMARK PICTURES (1997)
Starring: Nicole De Boer, Nicky Guardagni, David Hewlett, Andrew Miller, Maurice Dean Wint & more.
A group of people wake up & find themselves all trapped inside a cube room. The room is some sort of
experiment for someone or something. Each of the people have different personalities & traits that will help
them escape, They try to figure out the pattern to the cube & how to escape by the different numbers &
symbols on the walls. If they make wrong moves & enter the wrong room they some how die, because each
were pretty cool. You can really feel the intensity that is growing between the people the longer they are
stuck inside. This was a really decent film & a cool concept for a film. Check it out!!!

MAY (R) LIONS GATE FILMS (2002)
Starring: Angela Bettis, Jeremy Sisto, Anna Faris, James Duval, Nicole Hiltz & more.
A young lonely girl with a lazy eye becomes very isolated to the world & very lonely as she grows up. She
works in a veterinarian's office doing surgery & stuff. She does a lot sewing & makes her own cloths. She is
a little off in the head. She becomes friends with the receptionist at the vets office. She then falls a mechanic
who works in the same town. They start to date & get serious, until she becomes very weird. She has this
obsession with the dead, blood & gore, but she takes her obsession a little too far. There is a strange little end
as she becomes more & more deranged. This was a decent film to watch, but it's listed as a horror flick. It
wasn't scary at all, but a little off & suspenseful. Give it a viewing!!!

PULSE (R) MAGNOLIA PICTURES (2001)
Starring: Haruhiko Kato, Kumiko Aso, Koyuki, Kurume Arisaka, Masatoshi Matsuo & more.
A group of college students are working on a computer program, when one of them starts acting weird. He
isolates himself from them & then kills himself. When they play the disc he was working on they see the
image of his dead body roaming around the apartment. From there, more & more people start dying & they
are getting images from their deaths through other electronic devices. Things get more & more bizarre as the
movie goes on. This was a pretty cool concept, but the film tended to drag on a bit more. Let's hope the
American remake doesn't follow the same path as the original Japanese version.

REAL FICTION (R) SAEROM ENTERTAINMENT (2000)
Starring: Jim-Mo Ju, Jin-Ah Kim, Min-Seok Son, Je-Rak Lee, Ki-Yeon Kim & more.
A group of men want everyone to pay them or they will beat & torture them. This street artist goes to one
of his friends who wants to kill them & convinces him to help him. The film doesn't have much dialogue to
it, but was an OK This is an Asian film about a street artist who is being bullied by some low level thugs.
They are forcing film. The thing that was cool about this movie is that it was all shot in one take, with no re
shoots or anything. You can actually see one of the females who is filming parts of the film along with some
other crew members through out the film. This was alright, but not one of the best Asian films I've seen
lately.
SAMARITAN GIRL (R) TARTAN VIDEO USA (2004)
Starring: Yeo-Reum Han, Ji-Min Kwak, Eol Lee, Kwon Hyun-Min, Oh Young & more.
Two young girls want to go to Europe in the summer, but have no money to do so. They get a great idea of
sleeping with men for money. The one girl sleeps with the men, while the other manages her affairs.
Everything is going well, until they get busted by the police. The one girl jumps from the window & lands on
her head on the ground. She eventually dies & her friend goes a little wacky in the head. She wants to return
all the money to the men, but she sleeps with them first, then returns their money. Her father finds out &
goes after each of the men & beats the shit out of them. There were some slow parts in the film, but for the
most part it was interesting!

THE ISLE (R) MYUNG FILM COMPANY (2000)
Starring: Jung Suh, Yoosuk Kim, Sung Hee Park, Jae-Heyeon Jo, Hane Seon Jeing & more.
This was a pretty odd film. A young woman run a fishing shop on the lake, where people can rent these
little huts that float on the water & go a live there for as long as they want. She provides them with food,
drink & even sex. She sleeps with all of them, but really only wants the one guy. This man is a cop & keeps
thinking of committing suicide for something he did. Some of the other men get some prostitutes to come
have fun with them. The female running the place doesn't like this & she kills the prostitutes & their pimp.
Once the cops find out, they come searching for her, but she escapes. There are some bizarre things that
happen in this film. It's kind of slow, but worth watching for the few strange parts!!!
VERSUS (R) MIRAMAX FILMS (2000)
Starring: Tak Sakaguchi, Hideo Sakaki, Chieko Misaka, Kenji Matsuda, Yuichiro Arai & more.
There are 666 portals in this world that lead to the other side. The 444th portal is in Japan & is in the Forest
Of Resurrection. When an escaped prisoner winds up in these woods, he is tracked by a bunch of henchmen.
What they soon find out is that anyone killed in these woods returns in a zombie like form. There are ton of
zombies who return & fight these men. There was a ton of great fight scenes mixed with campy humor &
great gore. I loved the blood that flowed all through out the film, especially when the zombies were shredded
to pieces. Some slow spots, but plenty of action, drama & gore to keep you highly interested. I can see what
this film has become a cult favorite & there will be a sequel which i am looking forward too. This is a must
for any fan of Asian action, horror & gore flicks. This is a great film!!!
NIGHT WATCH (R) FOX SEARCH LIGHT (2004)
Starring: Konstantin Khabensky, Vladimir Menshov, Valeri Zolotukhin, Mariya Poroshina & more.
This is the first part of a Russian Trilogy movie about Vampires. The movie is the battle between to side The
Day Watch & The Night Watch. Both of these sides are constantly battle to take control over the other.
Once one does, they will rule. There are vampires & shape shifters all through out the film battling each
other. They are after a small child who holds more power than both of them. The film was pretty decent for
a foreign film, but was a little slow all the way through. The movie won tons of awards in Russia & I'm sure
will have a cult following through out the world!!!

ULTRA VIOLET (PG-13) SCREEN GEMS (2006)
Starring: Milla Jovovich, Cameron Bright, Nick Chinlund, William Fichtner, Sebastian Andrieu & more.
This film came out the same time as
AEON FLUX & looked like a rip off of that film, but it's not. This film
is actually a lot better than that one was. The film takes place in the future, where scientist are experimenting
to make the perfect human. Of course things go wrong & they create a virus that gives people vampire like
powers, so they called it vampirism. The government set out to kill them all, but Violet tends to fight back.
Milla was the perfect person for this part & she does a great job in kicking ass & doing the action scenes.
Some of the stuff is a little far fetched, but it's a SCI-FI film that takes place in the future so anything is
possible. This is a much better flick than it' was made out to be & well worth watching, especially to see
Milla kicking ass in all those great outfits. Check this film out!!!
