BREATHING ROOM (R) ANCHOR BAY FILMS (2008) Starring: Ailsa Marshall, Michael McLafferty, David Higlen, Brad Culver, Kim Estes & more. Tonya wakes up to find herself in an unfamiliar room with thirteen strangers. Each of the people are held hostage by electric collars and they fear what that means. Each of them is slated to die as the clock ticks down. As time gets closer and closer to expiring they all go against each other. They start dieing off one by one and everyone tries to figure out who the killer is. There is a little twist at the end of the film, but not a big surprise. This film really makes you feel tense and one edge as if you were in the room with them. This is more of an intense psychological thriller than an all out Horror flick. If you were to blend together elements of the films SAW, THE CUBE & the Japanese film BATTLE ROYAL you would get a good idea of what this film is like.
EDGES OF DARKNESS (R) ANCHOR BAY FILMS (2008) Starring: Alonzo F. Jones, Shamika Ann Franklin, Anne Marie Pazmino, Lee Perkins, Michelle Rose & more. The film takes place during a global apocalypse where the undead roam the earth. This is like three small films in one as they follow the adventures of three different people as they try to survive. One person is trapped by Vampires and needs to find a new way to survive. Another guy finds some way to super power his computer to use as a weapon. The last story is of a little boy who unleashes a new form of evil. They must defend themselves against Vampires, flesh eating Zombies and priest hell bent on destroying everything in the name of God. This is a low budget Horror / Adventure type flick. It was a little slow at times and not all the stories were as good as the others, but I can still appreciate the way they mashed the stories up to be taking place during the same time. www.myspace.com/EDGES_OF_DARKNESS
HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER 2 (R) NEW WORLD PICTURES (1988) Starring: Ashley Laurence, Imogen Boorman, Doug Bradley, Kenneth Cranham, William Hope & more. The Horror is not over for Kristy just yet. She is still having visions of her uncle Frank's reanimated body and her father's skinned corpse. She also is in fear of the return of the Cenobites. She has every reason to fear that because they have returned and they are seeking out more flesh. This time around Pinhead has returned and brought some new Cenobites with him. This is a continuation of the first film kind of in the same vein has HALLOWEEN 1 & 2. This one is a bit more grittier, gorier and more graphic in the violence. If you are a fan of the series, you have probably seen this, but this is one of the films that is worth multiple viewings. This is one of the best Horror film series out there and this film is one of the reasons why.
PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3 (R) PARAMOUNT PICTURES (2011) Starring: Christopher Nicholas Smith, Lauren Bittner, Chloe Csengery, Jessica Tyler Brown, Dustin Ingram. This is the third installment of the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY film series. As like the second, which took place before the first film, this one takes place before the other two. It focuses on the two sisters and how everything started with them being tortured by the evil spirit entity. The one sister can see and talk to the spirit which turns out to be friendly with her. As time goes by the spirit starts turning evil. The mom notices strange things happening as well as some of the families friends. The boyfriend of the mother decides to set up cameras around the home to capture the strange entity on film. When things get really out of control they move in with the grandmother and some things are revealed. This was better than the first, but not as good as the second film. www.PARANORMALmovie.com
PHANTASM IV: OBLIVION (R) ANCHOR BAY FILMS (1998) Starring: A. Michael Baldwin, Reggie Bannister, Bill Thornbury, Angus Scrimm, Heidi Marnhout & more. Angus Scrimm is back again as The Tall Man and is after a successor. He starts hunting down Mike and his friends. Mike is trying to figure out how The Tall Man has gotten so powerful and why he is after them. Mike gets help from his friends Reggie and Jody. They must get to Mike in time to save him all the while trying to escape the clutches of The Tall Man and his little goons. This installment in the series was my least favorite of the series, but it was still pretty decent if your a fan of the series. I have always found it really hard to see any of them better than the original film. It was just eerie and creepy and fresh and new. You had no idea what was going to happen and really what was going on. www.PHANTASM.com
SUSPIRIA (R) MAGNUM ENTERTAINMENT (1977) Starring: Udo Kier, Jessica Harper, Stefania Casini, Flavio Bucci, Miguel Bose & more. SUSPIRIA is a classic foreign Horror film from famed Italian Horror director Dario Argento. Susan is a young American Girl who moves to Europe to attend a prestigious school for dance. Everything starts out great for the young girl, but things soon become a little strange. She is faced with a shower full of maggots and finding poison hidden in her food. She then starts to do some investigating of her own and searches the school to find out what is going on. She soon discovers that the school has been a meeting place for witches for many years. This is a classic that many Horror fans have already viewed. If you haven't seen it, check it out and see why Dario Argento is the master of Italian Horror. Plus the film also stars fan favorite Udo Kier.
THE EVIL WOODS (R) AUTOMATIC FILM (2007) Starring: Brian Burns, Tamara Czartoryski-Borbon, Dedan Donovan, Ivory Dortch, Joshua Harris &more. This movie starts off just like many other Horror movies before it. A group of friends head out to the woods for a weekend camping trip with lots of beer and drugs. The party weekend starts out good until an old man warns the kids of a ghost killer in the woods. The friends laugh off the story and go back to their fun little weekend. Soon things turn bad when one of the friends is killed and now the rest of them start to fear for their lives. They want to escape, but all their tires have been sliced and of course none of their cell phones work. They all start to killed off one by one, but nothing is ever explained or tied up by the end of the flick. This was a low budget film, which I love, but it was hard to watch with a weak story, dialogue and acting, plus no gore and the nudity wasn't even worth mentioning. Many other better films out there with similar stories.
VISITING HOURS (R) ANCHOR BAY FILMS (1982) Starring: Michael Ironside, Lee Grant, Linda Purl, William Shatner, Lenore Zann & more. An out spoken news woman does a story on domestic violence and then later gets brutally attacked by a crazed man. She survives the attack, but is put in the hospital. While she is there she gets many visits from family and friends, but she gets one unsuspecting guest. Her attacker visits during "visiting hours", but stays longer than anyone would want. All these people working in the hospital as well as visiting start getting killed off as he does what he can to get to the news woman. This was another one of those low budget classic B-Horror movies from the eighties. It even has William Shatner in it as the womans boss. There is enough of all the good stuff that filled every eighties Horror movie, gore, naked chicks, a cheesy killer and even cheesier dialogue. If your a lover of eighties Horror films, then you'll want to check this little gem out!
WISHMASTER 4: PROPHECY FULFILLED (R) ARTISAN ENTERTAINMENT (2002) Starring: Tara Spencer-Nairn, Michael Trucco, Jason Thompson, John Novak, Victor Webster & more. The Djinn has returned again in this fourth installment of the WISHMASTER series. Lisa releases him this time through the opening of an ancient antique box. The Djinn spirit takes the form of Lisa's lawyer, who already has a crush on her. He aims to fool her into making three wishes that of course always come with consequences. She is reluctant to make them, but eventually does make the wishes. As she makes the wishes she conjures up the Brotherhood of Djinn. This is when all hell starts to break loose. This installment is a lot different than the other films in the series. The Djinn falls in love with the woman and wants him for himself. He is not as evil or angry as he was in the previous films. There wasn't much gore, nudity or even story, but it still was a decent addition to the film series, even though it's my least favorite in the series.
XOMBIE: DEAD ON ARRIVAL (TV-MA) EPIC LEVEL ENTERTAINMENT (2003) Starring: Geoff Edwards, Allison Rupert, Michele Fairney, James Farr, Haley Logan & more. XOMBIE was originally a flash web series that is all collected in one collection. The series is about a world where just about all life on earth has been wiped out by a Zombie plague. Dirge is one of the Zombies, but he has kept his human conscious. He does what he can to help a little girl named Zoe who has lost her family. He protects her and destroys anyone who comes near her. This was a killer adult cartoon that is kind of done like a Japanese Anime cartoon. There is a bunch of action, gore and good story. Even if your not a fan of animation, but a Horror fan you still need to check out this very cool film. Highly recommended! www.XOMBIfied.com
