HORROR MOVIE REVIEWS
(September 2008)
BLOOD ANGELS (R) SCREEN MEDIA (2004)
Starring: Lorenzo lamas, Leah Cairns, Siri Baruc, Fiona Scott, Sonya Salomaa & more.
There are 6 beautiful women who have become slaves or "Thralls" as they are called in the vampire  world.
They are a lower class of vampires that have no powers, can't fly & can't turn anyone into a vampire. They
want to become full blown vampires & need to perform a blood ritual on a certain day. They escape their
captive, played by Lorenzo Lamas who has started their transformation into vampires. They create a new
life for themselves & everything is going well until the sister of one of the girls comes to visit. She has no
idea what her sister has become. There is a huge battle between them all inside a night club. There are no real
special effects or great gory or bloody parts, but the film wasn't that bad & I'm sure it has to do with the fact
that all the women are pretty hot looking. Not the greatest vampire film, but definitely not the worst either!
BOTCHED (R) DARKLIGHT FILMS (2007)
Starring: Alan Smith, Stephen Dorff, Greg Isloudov, Jaime Murray, Zak Maguire & more.
This was kind of a bizarre film with a strange storyline. The film starts off with Stephen Dorff playing a
This one is in this major hotel in the suite of some rich folks. Once him & his partners get in the suite
everything goes wrong. They kill one of the people & then get lost in the section of the hotel that is under
construction. They end up taking some hostages & then become hunted by something or someone else. The
hostages get killed off one by one with some really gruesome & actually comical ways. There is a lot of
comedy mixed within the gore & suspense. When they reveal what is actually going on it's kind of a laugh &
disappointment but the film is still a fun watch. Some original & new ways of killing people all through out!
FLESH FOR THE BEAST (NR) SHRIEK SHOW (2003)
Starring: Jennifer Litsch, Sergio Jones, Clark Beasley Jr., Jim Coope, David Runco & more.
Alfred Fischer acquires a mystical medallion that eventually conjures up some demons that hunger for the
flesh of others. The demons have taking form of three beautiful lavishing women who use seduction to get
their victims. Centuries later six parapsychologist enter the house to study the past events that have
happened here. The demons reappear & start hunting down the new victims. Along the way the people that
are trying too survive now have to deal with zombies of past victims. These zombies lure the victims in for
the ravenous demons to feast upon. This is a low budget b-movie that actually had a decent plot, but then
runs into the typical layout of a horror movie. Enough blood, suspense & sexiness to keep you entertained!

MANIAC COP (R) ANCHOR BAY (1988)
Starring: Tom Atkins, Bruce Campbell, Laurene London, Richard Roundtree, William Smith & more.
In the streets of New York people are being brutally murdered by someone dressed as a cop. All the
witnesses agree that the person doing them was in a police uniform. The NYPD start to investigate &
everyone in their ranks becomes suspect. One cop tries to do his own investigation & his wife becomes
suspicious of him. The closer he gets to solving it the more convinced she is that he is the "
MANIAC
COP
". He is locked up & then the actual killer heads to the police station to wipe them all out. The cop
breaks out of his holding cell & heads after the Maniac Cop. There are some suspenseful & intense sense
with some cool killings. This has been a classic horror flick for awhile now & I have finally been able to
understand why. It also helps that Bruce Campbell is the star in the film. Watch this & then check out the
two sequels!
OTIS (NR) WARNER BROS. (2008)
Starring: Bostin Christopher, Ashley Johnson, Daniel Stern, Illeana Douglas, Kevin Pollak & more.
Otis is a mentally disturbed guy who keeps living his high school years over & over again. He has a
dungeon set up in the basement of the shed out back of his house. He has been kidnapping young girls &
keeping them chained up in the room. He makes them dress up in different cloths such as a cheerleaders
uniform, prom dress & more. He makes them do different things with him that normal high school kids do.
If they don't perform his request then he tortures them. He searches for a new victim everytime he kills one.
One girl escapes & finally heads home. She tells her family what he did & the family decides to take
revenge on the killer. They invade his home & surprise him, torture him & do some pretty sick deranged
things to him for revenge. This was a really dark & off comedy with lots of Horror overtones! A great film!

STUPID TEENAGERS MUST DIE! (R) OFF SET PICTURES (2006)
Starring: Jovan Meredith, Ashley Schneider, Devin Marble, Lindsay Gareth, Renee Dorian & more.
This is a newer film, but is set in the 80's so it can follow the typical formula of the 80's Horror films. A
bunch of stupid teenagers camp out & party in an old house that supposedly is haunted. They want to
conjure up the spirits of the house & they eventually do. Of course the spirits are evil & they start killing
off the teenagers one by one. The twist of the story is that the spirits pass into each of the different
teenagers & forces them to kill the other teenagers. They kill each other off in the same way as the guy who
lived there that slaughtered his family. They are killed off in the same order & same room as the original
victims. In the end the original victims come back from the dead to get all the teenagers that are left. This
was actually a lot better than I was expecting it to be, especially for a low budget independent film!

THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE (R) SONY PICTURES CLASSICS (2001)

It's 1939 & the end of a long bloody civil war in Spain. The tutor of a young boy drops him off in an

mean to him & start telling him all these stories of ghosts & other horrible things that happen at the
orphanage. They bring him down below in the catacombs of the place & they encounter the ghost of a little
boy. One of the hired hands finds them & starts beating them. They encounter the ghost a few more times
& he warns them of some dangers to come. The film was done by Guillermo Del Toro, the same guy that
did
HELLBOY, PAN'S LABRYNTH & THE ORPHANAGE, so you know this is a good film already!

THE EYE (PG-13) LIONSGATE (2008)
Starring: Jessica Alba, Alessandro Nivola, Parker Posey, Rade Serbedzija, Fernanda Romero & more.
Jessica Alba is a musician who is blind & eventually gets a donor for an eye transplant. She is hesitant to get
it done, but eventually does. After the operation she is trying to adjust to the fact of being able to see now.
She starts seeing some strange things & lets the doctor know. He thinks it's just her body trying to adjust to
the new eyes. Eventually she realizes that she can see the instant future of certain people who are going to
die. She starts having major visions & wants to find out who the donor was for her eyes. After searching &
finding out about the girl, she finds out the girl also had visions as well. In the small town where she's from
in Mexico, they thought she was a witch or possessed. This is a remake of a Japanese film & one of the
better remakes out there, I haven't seen the original yet, so I'm not sure which is better!

THE MACHINE GIRL (R) MEDIA BLASTERS (2008)
Starring: Minase Yashiro, Asami, Kentaro Shimazu, Honoka, Nobuhiro Nishihara & more.
A young school boy is getting picked on & beat up by the son of a Japanese mob boss. Eventually things go
too far & the son of the mob boss kills the young boy & one of his friends. The sister of the boy wants to
find out who did it & starts investigating. She starts taking people out & then gets captured by the mob
boss. He tortures her & then eventually removes some of her limbs. She some how escapes & goes to the
parents of the other boy killed. The father makes all these different weapons for the girl to use as makeshift
limbs. The three of them go after the mob boss & his family. There is a ton of action & over the top violence
& gore. This is a very cool bizarre film. If you dig other films like
OLD BOY, BATTLE ROYALE &
SIMPATHY FOR LADY VENGANCE
then you'll dig this film. I hope they make more of these films!
THE STRANGERS (R) ROGUE PICTURES (2008)
Starring: Liv Tyler, Scott Speedman, Gemma Ward, Kip Weeks, Laura Margolis & more.
A young couple retreat to families vacation home after attending a wedding. The couple have decided to
split up, but will spend the night together & go their own way in the morning. When a young girl starts
knocking on their door in the middle of the night they start to get creeped out. The girl never says anything
& then goes away. She eventually returns & does the same thing. This time though there are two other
"strangers in masks that have been watching the house & making very disturbing noises & scaring the hell
out of both of them. They eventually invade the home & take them both captive & start torturing them &
more. The film was done really well & had a ton of high tense suspensive parts all through out. The film is
actually based off of true events & they never caught the real people who did it. The only reason they said
they did it was because they were home! It's pretty freaky & they are supposed to be making a second film!
