| RED EYE (PG-13) DREAMWORKS SKG (DVD) 2005 Starring: Rachel McAdams, Cillian Murphy, Brian Cox, Jayma Mays, Angela Paton & more. This is Horror director Wes Craven's attempt to break away from being just a Horror director. He does a great job on this intense suspense thriller. Mcadam is headed home to Miami to see her dad, when she is taken hostage by a passanger, who initially was very friendly. They want here to call the hotel she works for & switch a politician to another room, that will then be asasinated. If she does not cooperate then they will kill her father. Rachel McAdams has played some very good roles & this is another one. She is going to be Hollywood's next big female star. The movie has a lot of intense on the edge of your seat parts. | A DIRTY SHAME (R) NEW LINE CINEMA (DVD) 2005 Starring: Johnny Knoxville, Tracey Ullman, Selma Blair, Chris Issack, Suzanne Sheppard & more. When an uptight suburban woman is hit in the head by accident, she is turned into a sex addict. A small Baltimore subruban town is slowly become a sexual hot spot. Knoxville is Ray Ray the guiding light into helping all the towns folk find their sexual desires. He gets the whole town to go sexing. He recruits certain people as the 12 apostles to creat new sex fetishes or sex acts. This is a John Waters film, so I really expected it to be quite bizarre, which it was. There is a lot of outragous funny parts & somethings that are a bit shocking, until you remember its a John Waters film. | ALL SOULS DAY (R) ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT (DVD) 2005 Starring: Laz Alonso, Danielle Burgio, Marisa Ramirez, David Keith, Jeffrey Combs & more. This film takes place over 3 time periods in a small Mexican village. A man discovers a cave that holds hidden treasures. He forces the town folks to help uncover it & promises to share it with them. Once he has it all he kills all the town folks. Every year on "The Day Of The Dead" (a Mexican holiday) the dead return from the graves as zombies to try & kill this man & his family. Present day time, a young couple are driving through Mexico when their car breaks down in the village. They are caoght up in the weird goings on in the village as well, forced to fight off the zombies to save their own lives! The film was a little annoying at times, because of some of the acting. The zombies looked cool, but that's about all. There are better zombie movies out there!!! |
| THE CAVE (PG-13) LAKESHORE ENTERTAINMENT / SCREEM GEMS, INC. (DVD) 2005 Starring: Cola Hauser, Eddie Cibrian, Rick Rauanello, Lena Heady, Piper Perabo & more. A group of underwater cave explorers hear about an unexplored cave dwelling in the waters of Romania. They head out to the area & start their expidition. They set up camp & send out a scout to check out the next section of the cave. Once there he is attacked by some unknown creature. The rest of the group heads out & discovers all these new creatures living there. One creature infects you with it's parasites & the parasite slowly takes over your body & mutats you into one of them. This film looked like an ALIENS rip off, but this was actually quite good & really didn't have anything too much in common with ALIENS. The effects as well as the story & acting were really good. | ALONE IN THE DARK (R) LIONS GATE FILMS (DVD) 2004 Starring: Christian Slater, Tara Reid, Stephen Dorff, Frank C Turner, Matthew Walker & more. When this movie came out I thought it looked pretty bad. When I found out it was based on a video game I figured I would check it out. I really wish I didn't. The movie plot was very hard to follow & there was a lot of pointless stuff in the film. 20 kids from an orphanage are used in some government experiment, but one escapes. 20 something years later those kids (now adults) all disappear. Slater is a parinormal investigator who gets attacked by some zombie/human & then by some ALIEN/GODZILLA hybrid looking thing. More start showing up & attacking him & his girlfriend (Reid). Along with the help of his government friend (Dorff) & his forces they try to kill all of these beast before they kill everyone. This movie was pretty bad, from the acting, directing, story & more. A married couple live very seperate lives from each other with out the other knowing. It turns out the two people are bounty hunters for hire from two different companies. They cross paths on the same job & now, both are wanted by the others company. They fight each other thinking the whole marriage was a set up, but then band together to fight their common enemies. This was a pretty bad flick for both of these actors & for Vince Vaughn as well. The story was really slow in the begining as well as boring. It does pick up around the middle of the film though. There are a lot of cool videos from their back catalog here, including: "Madhouse", "Indians", "I'm The Man", "Who Cares Wins", "Belly Of The Beast", "Got The Time", "In My World" & "Bring The Noize" (with PUBLIC ENEMY). There is also some live footage of the band in London, Philadelphia & Germany too. The best part of this DVd was watching the Band Video Commentary. This is a remake of the 1976 film of the same name. A group of misfit kids are brouaght together to form a little leagur baseball team. They are coached by a drunk ex-baseball player, who doesn't really care about anything. The kids are all come from different backgrounds & constantly fight with each other. They are terrible at baseball too. Once the season starts they start to get a little better & take on the intire league. This film was better than the original & Billy Bob was really funny in this film. This is a remake of a Japanese horror movie of the same name. A run down mother & her daughter are forced to live in a run down apartment complex after a tough divorce & custody battle. Once they move in & fix up their apartment, they are haunted by a young girls ghost. The girl used to be the daughter of the upstairs neighbors. They hear footsteps & see water dripping through the ceiling. As they start to investigate they slowly unravel the truth of this young girl. The movie looked pretty creepy when it was in theaters, but I was a little disapointed with this film. It was very slow in the beginning & wasn't really scary. The film is about a nameless & fearless warrior who rises up to defy an empire & unite a nation. Jet Li is this nameless soldier who embarks on a mission of revenge against a fearsome army that massacred his people. He needs the help of some other great warriors, which he encounters on his journey. This film is done so brilliantly from the story telling, the acting, the fighting scenes, the music & the color. There is so much that is great about this film that it must been seen, even if your not a fan of martial arts films. This is the first time I have actually seen this film all the way through. The movie is about a team of astronauts set out into space & they crash land on a planet 2000 years in the future. they look for any form of life they can & find out that humans are the lower life form on the planet. The planet is run by apes & they are the most intelligent species too. They hunt & capture humans for fun & try to study them. Charlton Heston character tries to work with them & figure out where he is. He is the only human who can talk & therefore they believe he is some kind of scientific experiment mutant. He rebels against the apes & discovers he is actually on planet earth & humans have destroyed themselves!!! | DEAD & BREAKFAST (R) ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT (DVD) 2004 Starring: Ever Carradine, David Carradine, Portia De Rossi, Jeremy Sisto, Bianca Lawson & more. This film claimed to be the U.S. answer to SHAUN OF THE DEAD, this was the reason I wanted to see it. This film has insulted such a great film by making that claim. The movie added in some comedy along with it's horror. The only problem here, was that the funny parts weren't really funny & the horror parts were even worst. The film parodies & makes references to a lot of other great horror films, trying to put itself in their league, but they don't even come close. The only good part was that there were some really cool bloody gore parts. The story was bad, along with the acting & the dialogue. Ever Carradine was the only one who acted decent in the film, everyone else was poor & unbelievable. Worth watching once just to see it, but would never view it again. This film seemed like it would be kind of cheesy & boring when it was in theaters. I was wrong on that account! The film is based in the future after a mass contamination on the world. These people live in this controled, clean environment & have daily routines they all follow. Their only hope is to win the lottery & go to THE ISLAND. One man starts to questions why they do waht they do & what has happened in the past, plus what is so great about THE ISLAND. He starts to do some investigating himself. He uncovers some things that leads him to believe everything is a lie. The film had a good story line & lots of action as well. There was a twist on the story too. When he crashes on the planet he searches for anyone. He runs into Nova from the first film who takes him to Ape City. There they get captured & then escape. They set out to the forbidden zone. There they find underground ruins of old New York city. They encounter some mutant humans who are planing on eliminated the Apes. This film was just as good as the first one & especially good for the time of it's release. A woman falls asleep on a bench in the London Underground & misses her train. She becomes locked in the station & boards an unexpected train. She is attacked by a rapist, when something mysteriously rips him off her & kills him. With nowhere to go, she heads in to the many underground tunnels below the city to escape. She is being chased by some deformed medical experiment victim, who has dwelled in the London subway system & sewer system. He captures & tortures unsuspected victims. This was a great Horror film, especially from a first time director. This was done very well, it kept you in suspense all through out & had a great storyline. The acting was done very well to along with the way it was filmed. It had plenty of gore too! This is one of the better Horror films that has been put out in the last 5 years. When a woman runs into a couple who are visiting from out of town & no where to stay, she invites them to stay at their house. The couple seem a little strange like they are hidding something, but you don't know what. During their stay the one ladies husband, starts to seduce the womans who house it is, while his wife tries to seduce the man who's house it is, or so it would seem this way. When their hidden agenda is revealed the story takes a different turn. The story was a little slow & not much really going on all through out, but the little twist was decent. Not one I would watch again, but it was ok for a low budget independent film!!! |

I was a little bit nervous about seeing this film. When a movie franchise goes more than two pictures it's usually not good, but this film stayed in the same tradition as the first two films. A female gets vision of her friends dieing on the rollercoaster ride at an amusement park. After they git off & the coaster derails, they start to be hunted down by death. The girl finds some clues to how they will all die in the photos she took that night at the amusement park. This film was just as good as the past two, it was a lttle gory in the death scenes & were quite shocking as well. Will Farrell become the coach of his son soccer team, just to beat his father who is the coach of another soccer team. His dad is always putting him down & is very competitive. Will's team starts out as a bunch of losers, but quickly learn the value of team work, friendship & how to play soccer. There a lot of really funny parts & Will is the best part of this film. Him & Duvall bounce of each other very good. It was easy to believe that they were father & son. The film reminded me of THE BAD NEWS BEARS, but just with soccer instead of baseball. The escaped criminal is killed by someone & the only witnesses are a group of cheerleaders. Jones is placed undercover to protect this girls, in fear theta the killer will come after them. There are some pretty decent funny parts in the film, but sometimes the girls get annoying, but it's easy to watch as all of them are in skimpy cloths most of the time. I thought this film was going to be a lot funnier than it was, but it was still a decent flick to check out. From the discription on the box this movie sounded like it was going to be funny, but it wasn't. I like Jenny McCarthy, but this was really bad. It was suposed to be a comedy, but I think I only chuckled 2 or 3 times through out the whole movie. Jenny comes home to find her model boyfriend cheating on him. Once she is out on her own she tries to hit the dating scene again. After horrible after horrible date she wants to give up all toghetr. She gets really down & depresed, while the whole time her male best friend tries to show her how much he loves her & she can't even see it. They find themselves caught up in the middle of two mob bosses in Las Vegas. The film had a better story than I was expecting & lost of action. This was set as kids film, but it was done really dark, so I wanted to check it out. After a mysterious fire, 3 children are left orphaned & must go live with their closest relative. This relative is Count Olaf, played by Jim Carrey. Once he tries to kill the kids to get their fortune, they keep going to live with other relatives. When all the relatives keep dying off in bizarre ways, all signs point back to Count Olaf. No one wants to believe the children as they try to explain.
