| ARTHRITIC FOOT SOLDIERS - IMMATURE NOBODIES (10 track CD) TURKEY VULTURE RECORDS This is the debut CD release for ARTHRITIC FOOT SOLDIERS on TURKEY VULTURE RECORDS. These guys play a killer mix of old school Punk Rock with lots of Crossover all through out. There is a very cool up beat harsh groove that runs through a lot of their songs. The crunchy raunchy guitar parts really remind me of a lot of the great Punk bands from the 80's. The vocals are a mid ranged harsh groggy Punk style. The lyrics are very non politically correct and have a ton of humor injected in them. I kept thinking these guys are like a Punk version of MOTORHEAD. | BEYOND THRESHOLD - REVOLUTION (12 track CD) TURKEY VULTURE RECORDS BEYOND THRESHOLD have brought new life to the Metal scene with their fresh and different sound. They base their style in Metal while pulling from many different influences in Metal's many sub-genres. The style that seems to dominate the most would be Thrash Metal. They have lots of catchy Thrash riffs with crunchy power grooves. There is also a lot of solid Power Metal elements present within in the guitars. At times in the faster more aggressive parts you can hear Death Metal coming into play. The vocals have a wide range as well. Harsh groggy Thrash vocals are flavored with some slower more melodic Power vocals and fast throaty Death growls and screams. | DEUS OTIOSUS - TOO MAIMED TO USE (2 track CD) Self Released DEUS OTIOSUS hails from Denmark and originally started out as a two man project. As the years went on the band grew into a full band and now is ripping any place they can destroying the name of God every where they go. These guys play spastic old school Death Metal that's fast paced, aggressive as hell and blasting. They remind me of a lot of the European Death Metal bands from the early to mid 90's. The vocals are mid ranged throaty Death growls. They reminded me a little of how my vocals were in my old band FAMILY OF FREAKS. This is a live promo of the band playing in Svendborg. | GUILD OF DESTRUCTION - WE ARE VERMIN (9 track CD) GRINDHEAD RECORDS Born in Melbourne Australia comes this Death Metal juggernaut in the form of GUILD OF DESTRUCTION. These guys are bringing back the harsh aggressive and brutal Death Metal that the scene has been needing for years now. Their music infuses some new school technical parts as well as some slight spastic Black Metal. The music just repeatedly beats the hell out of you and makes you want more and more. The mid ranged thick Death growls finish off this bands immense and full sound perfectly. It's hard to believe a band this full sounding is only a 4 piece. | HERPES - DOOMSDAY (5 track CD) NIHILISTIC HOLOCAUST I know everyone has heard of HERPES before, but this is the type of HERPES you want. These guys hail from France and play blasting gore soaked Death Metal in an old school style. The music is very thick, dirty and brutal sounding all through out. It reminds me of a lot of the bands I was listening to when I first got into Death Metal. The music goes from fast paced all out aggression into some slower more sludge like Death crawls. | KING ORACLE - IT IS I (9 track CD) CREATURE UNDER THE ROCK KING ORACLE was born in 2008 by Corey Daniels after he left his band SENTINEL due to musical differences. Corey started this one man project with the "If you want it done right, do it yourself" approach. He plays guitar, bass, keyboards, drums and did the vocals all himself. He also did all the recording, mixing and mastering for the album. He has taken his influences which include the second wave of Black Metal, Folk and Progressive Metal to create a sound all his own. The music is very melodic and soothing at times while at others it is harsh, aggressive, cold and raw sounding. The vocals also reflect the same pattern as the music. | MECHANICAL GOD CREATION -CELL XIII (9 track CD) WORM HOLE DEATH Italy has spawned some very good Metal bands, but I think MECHANICAL GOD CREATION is the best one yet. These guys and gal, play killer brutal technical Death Metal music. They have pulled influences from old school Death Metal greats like DISINCARNATE, OBITUARY, MALEVOLENT CREATION and mixed it with some new schoolers like THE FACELESS, JOB FOR A COWBOY and BLACK DAHLIA MURDER. They have such a fast paced adrenalized sound that makes you want to get up and destroy your surroundings. I loved the grooved that is inter woven into all the chaos they are producing. The vocals reminded me a little of ARCH ENEMY but not as throaty sounding. I highly recommend this band to every Death Metal fan. www.myspace.com/MECHANICALGODCREATION |
| OPERA FUNEREA - FLAMES IN ETERNITY (3 track CD) Self Released OPERA FUNEREA hails from Italy and plays very cold and depressive sounding Black Metal music. The music is infused with a lot of Doom and Funeral type Metal music. It's really slow and sludgy like a funeral march would be, but a little more noisier and louder. The music has some really dark and dreary parts as well. The vocals are mid ranged harsh groggy growls with higher pitched harsh Black Metal screams. This is definitely not your typical Black / Doom Metal band. If your into the styles above you should really give this band a listen. |
| SLOW INTENTIONAL DAMAGE - UNSTOPPABLE (10 track CD) TURKEY VULTURE RECORDS SLOW INTENTIONAL DAMAGE play a Modern style of Thrash Metal. They add in lots of flavoring from other Metal genres as well to create their sound. They toss in some more Modern Metal sounds that are radio friendly, but still heavy. There are fast paced crunchy guitar riffs mixed with lots of grooved out Thrash Metal riffs. They have a solid hard hitting drum sound that goes from fast blasting to slow grooved. They even toss in some Death Metal influences at times, especially in the fast more aggressive parts. The vocals run from clean melodic vocals to harsh Thrash, raw Hardcore screams and lower ended Death growls. These guys a little something every Metal can enjoy. | SOUND OF DETESTATION - GE FAN I VARA LIV (15 track CD) GRINDHEAD RECORDS SOUND OF DETESTATION is another great band to emerge from Australia. These guys plays spastic old school styled Grindcore music with many Death Metal influences mixed in. They have a really intense fast paced sound, but at times it will slow down slightly into a groove and then shoot right back into the mayhem. The Death Metal influences are mostly prominent in the vocals. They are heavily Grindcore styled screams mixed with low ended Death Metal growls. This is a must for fans of early NAPALM DEATH, ROTTEN SOUND and NASUM! | THE WAY OF PURITY - CROSSCORE (10 track CD) WORM HOLE DEATH Hailing from Sweden comes another amazing band in the form of THE WAY OF PURITY. This band takes extreme to new levels and sends it in many different directions. They lay their foundation in Death Metal which is pretty obvious from start to finish, but you can hear lots of Grindcore and touches of Black Metal all through out. This band is very intense with their spastic chaos within melodic boarders. It's like a controlled chaos of sorts. There is rapid fire drum beats, driving guitar riffs, stop and starts, breakdowns, melodic passages and lots more. Sweden is know for birthing some amazingly great bands. THE WAY OF PURITY deserves at the top of that list! This is a must! No Death Metal collection is complete with out this band in it! Highly recommended!
