| ABORTED FETUS - FATAL DOGMATIC DAMAGE (11 track CD) COMATOSE MUSIC Russia's ABORTED FETUS are back with a new slab of sick ass Death Metal. These guys have been around since 2000 and have been shredding the underground scene apart ever since. They play in an old school style of U.S. brutal Death Metal. The music is spastic low ended Death Metal, but is drowning in a ton of Grindcore influences. The guitars are ultra fast and the blasting drums really are heavy Grindcore influenced. The vocals are done in a mid to low ranged Death gurgle style. Brings to mind bands like INGROWING, ALIENATION MENTAL, COCK AND BALL TORTURE & POPPY SEED GRINDER. | A BURIED EXISTENCE -THE DYING BREED (10 track CD) Self Released A BURIED EXISTENCE emerged on the Italian underground scene back in 2008. With a 4 song EP and this new full length "THE DYING BREED" under their belt, these guys are ready to destroy the Metal scene. The band is heavily influenced by both Death Metal and Hardcore to create a killer Metalcore sound. These guys are a little different then most bands playing this style and they like to call it Bastard Core. There is a lot of hard hitting grooved out parts that are found in a lot of Hardcore with tons of crushing beats found in Death Metal. These guys have a ton of anger that pours out of their sound. The harsh mid ranged Death growls / screams round out the bands sound. If you were to take the amazing band CARCASS and blend in Hardcore elements you get the killer band that is A BURIED EXISTENCE! | BROKEN GRAVESTONES - LET SLEEPING CORPSE LIE (6 track CD) COMATOSE MUSIC / SEVARED RECORDS "LET SLEEPING CORPSES LIE" is the debut release from this sick Death Metal band out of Spain & the United States. These guys play crushing old school Death Metal that takes you back to the early days when this genre was just creeping out of the ground. The music is kind of dirty feeling and has a bit of a Doom like feel to it at times. The music is pounding, but kind of s slow pummel. The vocal style is done in a mid ranged throaty Death growl. The band features members of MASSACRE, BONE GNAWER, DENIAL FIEND & GRUESOME STUFF RELISH. This is a very cool start and I can't wait to see what this band releases next. | HOLLENLARM - HELLISH NOISE (6 track CD) HORROR PAIN GORE DEATH PRODUCTIONS This is the debut full length release from this Pennsylvania based band. These guys play strong mixture of Doom & Black Metal with lots of Death Metal blended all through out. They draw heavy influences from Southern Doom Metal combining it with some cold somber Black Metal. There is a lot of old school styled Death Metal mixed as well as some slight Crust Punk elements. The band features veterans of the Philadelphia underground scene as well as my buddy Evan Williams from MORBID ENTREE, INSATANITY, FOREVER I BURN & many others. These guys remind me of a lot of the bands on the SOUTHERN LORD record label. If you mix bands like CROWBAR, EYEHATEGOD, MANIAC BUTCHER & DARKTHRONE together, you'd get a great idea of what this very killer new bands has to offer to represent the Pennsylvania Metal scene. www.myspace.com/derHOLLENLARM |
| HONEY FOR CHRIST - THE CRUELTY OF GREAT EXPECTATIONS (8 track CD) RUN DOWN RECORDS HONEY FOR CHRIST has been churning out their blend of Heavy Metal since 1998. They have put out numerous demos, EP's and vinyl but, "THE CRUELTY OF GREAT EXPECTATIONS" is the bands first full length debut. These guys don't play straight up Heavy Metal, they just use it to build off of. They have a lot of Thrash Metal influences, especially in the guitar sound along with blends of Gothic & Doom elements all through out. They take you through a slow melodic passage with the Gothic & Doom undertones and then slam you straight into a Thrash Metal frenzy. The vocals mostly fall in the melodic Gothic area, but some times they get a bit harsher. I have followed these guys through out the years and they have definitely excelled past all previous releases. | REGURGITATION - CLITORALDECTOMY (5 track CD) COMATOSE MUSIC "CLITORALDECTOMY" was originally recorded back in 2002 but was never released after the band broke up. Last year the band did a reunion show at the Central Illinois Metalfest and will hopefully be staying together. These guys were one of the first and one of my favorite Death Metal bands from back when I was first starting out. These guys play ultra brutal old school Death Metal. The music is spastic, loud and blasting all through out. The music has a lot of change ups that keep you wondering what is coming next other than another beating. The vocals are done in low ended Death growls that are harsh and groggy. If you want to hear one of the best all time underground Death Metal bands ever than pick up this CD or their legendary CD "TALES OF NECROPHILIA", which is getting a re-release soon! | TWENTY RIPPED ANGEL - THREADS (13 track CD) KILLING JAR RECORDS TWENTY RIPPED ANGEL is a very band that blends together a few styles to create a fresh spin on some familiar styles. I would place them mostly in the Industrial genre of music, but they mix in a lot of Metal and Gothic elements to round out their sound. This is the third release I have from these guys and each one has gone beyond what the previous one delivers. The music is very cold and harsh like Industrial, but is also very driven like Metal and kind of gloomy like Gothic Metal is. The vocals also run the path between all these styles. I would love to see these guys, because I'm sure it's a killer show. This is one for fans of MARILYN MANSON, DOPE, HANZEL UND GRETYL, BILE, GENETORTURERS & MINISTRY! | UMMON - RETREAT (3 track CD) VISCERAL CIRCUITRY RECORDS UMMON is an extension of the tech Death Metal band ABYSSAL SUFFERING. UMMON is more of a solo project and is back in 2011 with this 3 song sampler to invade and infect your mind. They play experimental Metal that is heavily influenced by Death Metal and Jazz. They smash these two styles together to create a very unique sound. There is a lot of experimentation mixed all through out every song. They take influences of GORGUTS, GODFLESH, JESU, VOIVOD & even doomy old BLACK SABBATH and melt them together. | V OTRAZHENIJAH - ? (5 track CD) ALT'ERA PROMO GROUP I'm not sure what the name of this album because everything is in another language, which I believe is Russian and I don't know what it says. I couldn't find anything on this band online either. All I do know is that they play some really harsh and aggressive Black Metal music. The music is done in a really raw and war like style that takes me back to the Black metal bands of the early 90's. The music is kind of static like, especially in the guitars and has kind of a dark grimy vibe to it. The vocals are done in a mid ranged harsh Black Metal scream and growl style. These guys also add in some technical and intricate song structures. They remind me of most of the bands that were on the very killer label WORLD WAR III RECORDS. Fans of that label and their bands will surely love these guys. Search them out and blast this release!!! |
| WELLSPRING - THE DIVIDE (6 track CD) Self Released WELLSPRING started out as a solo project from Jon of the band BEREAVEMENT. His brothers have since joined him on drums and guitars. The band hails from Pennsylvania and play a different style of Progressive Metal with some touches of Black Metal thrown in the mix. The music is very original sounding with lots of dark and melodic elements all through out. At times there are some acoustic & Folk influences all present as well. The vocals are mostly done in a mid ranged hallowed Death growl style. These guys would most likely fall in the Progressive Death Metal category. The band has since changed their name to WORLDECAY. Check out this very original and impressive band from Pennsylvania, and if you can find a copy of the BEREAVEMENT CD then pick that one up as well.
