| AEON APHELION - SELF TITLED (5 track CD) Self Released This is the first release all self financed from this killer Doom Metal band hailing from Greece. These guys base their foundation on strong Doom Metal influences, but have injected other forms of Metal into their sound. There are elements of Black Metal in the cold harsh overtones of their sound. At times you can hear Progressive Death Metal influences in the guitar sounds & structures. The vocals are mostly slow sludgy thick Doom with some more harsh throaty and aggressive Death Metal ones mixed in. This is a very impressive first offering from this amazing band. This 5 song E.P. release should gain them much attention. I would be highly surprised if someone didn't sign these guys to their label soon. | AUDIO ZOMBIE - VOLUME 1 (24 track CD) LOLLIPOP RECORDINGS I was given this CD from the guys of AUDIO ZOMBIE when I was at THE HAUNTERS CONVENTION in Pennsylvania. These guys create amazingly cool theme music and sound effects suited for any occasion where creepy sound are needed. The music they create is all written and composed by them and is all original music. They also do very creative folly work to achieve unique sounds. There are no samples or synths used in any of their music. Some of the themes range from Evil Circus, Egyptian, Medieval, Gothic, Hauntings and much more. This is some of the best sound work I've ever heard. The cool part is they will let you use their music for your own project at no cost. | CUNTSCRAPE - PAPSMEAR CAMPAIGN (23 track CD) PRIME CUTS MUSIC I love this band! "PAPSMEAR CAMPAIGN" is the third release from these sickos from Australia. The band builds on a Grindcore based sound and mixes in lots of other influences. They take elements from Death, Thrash, Rock and Humor to create one of the most unique sounds out there playing Grindcore. Most of their lyrical content is centered around Sex, Porn and Death. You know, all the great things in life. Some of the songs will lean towards one of the above styles more than other, but the Grindcore aspect is there all through out. The vocals mostly fall in a spastic Grindcore & mid ranged Death growl style. I kept thinking if MR. BUNGLE were a Grindcore band then this is probably what they would sound like. | INFECTED - CRAWLSPACE (11 track CD) PRIME CUTS MUSIC INFECTED was one the best bands of the 90's Death Metal scene in Australia. The band put out a few releases & then later disbanded. After a few reunion shows they got great responses & decided to re-release their debut album for a new generation of Death Metal fans. This marks the 15 year anniversary of the original release. It is pure straight forward brutal Death Metal in the vein of the Florida Death Metal scene of the late 80's and early 90's. They have a very tight, technical style to their music that really is far superior to most of the bands they have been compared to. The album has been remastered with all new sleeve artwork & a remix track. If you weren't INFECTED in the 90's then you need to this time around. | INNER MISSING - THE AGE OF SILENCE (8 track CD) Self Released "THE AGE OF SILENCE" is the second release from this Russian Metal band. These guys formed in 2008 originally under the name ODIUM. These guys play some very well crafted Metal music. The music has many influences from different styles of Metal genres, but they are all done in a very Progressive Technical style. You can hear some influences from Doom Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal, Speed Metal and Power Metal all rolled into one. These guys are in the process of looking for a label to put out this release. After one listen, there should be people fighting to sign these guys. These guys are some of the best skilled musicians I have ever heard come out of Russia. | OLD CORPSE ROAD - THE ECHOES OF TALES ONCE TOLD (3 track CD) Self Released OLD CORPSE ROAD hails from the North East of England and play classic British Black Metal. There is a blend of Avant-garde and Folk music inter mixed through out their songs. At times the music blends in spastic blasts and cold vibes while other times they have a really atmospheric dark Gothic overtone. The music is very well written and constructed. The vocals are a combination of fast higher pitched growls and screams with some almost spoken word styles. These guys deliver the goods which has a little bit of everything that makes Black Metal music great. Any Black Metal fan would be proud to have this bands releases in their collection! | OLD CORPSE ROAD / THE MEADS OF ASPHODEL - SPLIT (10 track CD) GODREAH RECORDS This is a split release between two bands out of England. The first three tracks are from OLD CORPSE ROAD and make up "THE BONES OF THIS LAND ARE NOT SPEECHLESS". These guys continue doing what they do best and that's playing some of the best written and played Black Metal to ever emerge from the U.K. Atmospheric dark cold passages mixed with fast blasts, spastic guitars and harsh vocals. The other seven tracks come form THE MEADS OF ASPHODEL. These guys play a different style of English Black Metal that incorporates many elements of Punk into their sound. Their music is a little raw, harsh and aggressive. This is where I would see the Punk influences coming into play. They do have some more atmospheric parts as well. | PSYCHOSIS - SELF TITLED (3 track CD) Self Released PSYCHOSIS emerged back in 1992 out of the Bay Area Thrash Metal scene, but sadly disbanded in 1993 after one release. After 17 years three of the four members regrouped & started the band back up. They have recruited two new members making the band a five piece for the first time ever. This three song CD is to show everyone they are back and better than before. They continue where they left off playing great Thrash Metal that the bay area is known for producing. PSYCHOSIS is a perfect representation of what the Bay Area has to offer and what an excellent Thrash Metal should sound like. | RAZORHOOF - SELF TITLED (6 track CD) 1912 RECORDS RAZORHOOF is not your typical Metal band, but I can see a ton of different Metal heads loving these guys. I know I did! They have such a cool driving beat that just crunches in your ears. The music seems mostly based on a Sludge or Doom sound but the music is really rockin' all through out. There are some Hardcore / Metal crossover influences as well. If you were to mutate the following bands: CLUTCH, BLACK FLAG, old HELMET, KYUSS, MOTORHEAD, CROWBAR and NEUROSIS together you'd get a slight idea of how cool this band is. All I can say is you must buy this album as soon as possible and play it as often as possible! | SAGNTID - THE SLIPSTREAM WORLD OF SAGNTID (7 track CD) Self Released SAGNTID was formed back in 2002, but was laid to rest in 2003. It was resurrected in 21008. This is the first release since then which came out in 2009. SAGNTID is a one man band out of Denmark that consists of J.N., who composed, wrote, arranged, recorded, mixed and mastered everything. The music done in an Experimental Ambient style with lots of atmosphere and sound scape passages. The music sometimes sounds like it could be used for some old time Gothic type horror movies or even some modern day Vampire movies, but not that stupid TWILIGHT crap. | SAGNTID - WHERE THE BLACK DOGS CEASE TO BARK (2 track CD) Self Released SAGNTID is back with another release. This is only a two track release, but the first track is over eighteen minutes long. On this release J.N. has continued with the style he does best. He creates Experimental Ambient music with lots of sound scopes mixed in all through out. This one seems a bit darker and colder than the previous release. It almost made me feel like I was listening to an episode of X-FILES with any dialogue and just the music. | THE ZOMBIE'S PLAYGROUND -SELF TITLED (40 track CD) LOLLIPOP RECORDINGS This was another disc I got from the guys of LOLLIPOP RECORDINGS & AUDIO ZOMBIE when I was at the HAUNTERS CONVENTION. This is a disc filled with tons of different musical sounds that all are in the realm of Zombies. The music is all background music that's creepy, dark, cold and horrific. It is intended for people to use for Haunted Houses, Haunted Hayrides, websites and any other Horror themed projects. The music is composed by Jason Ruch and John Croce. These guys are musicians and folly artists. Everything they do is all original created pieces with no samples or synths used anywhere. | WUTHERING HEIGHTS - SALT (9 track CD) SENSORY Finally after three years of silence the Danish Metal band WUTHERING HEIGHTS has unleashed their newest and fifth album, "SALT". These guys are one of the best bands out there today playing this style of music. They are a Power / Progressive Metal band that delivers much more. They infuse many elements of Speed, Thrash, Folk and Celtic music into their sound. The vocals remind me of Dee Snider if he was in a Folk Metal band. If you would take the best parts of DRAGONFORCE, ELUVITIE, RHAPSODY, ENSIRFERUM, BLIND GUARDIAN & DIO and added in Celtic & Folk music, then you'd get WUTHERING HEIGHTS. There are a lot of twists and turns in their music that takes you on a musical voyage like nothing you've heard before and that you would want to take over and over again.
