| ABRASIVE - THE BIRTH...BORN IN SODOM (10 track CD) MDD RECORDS Germany's ABRASIVE are back with their fifth release to date. This new release "THE BIRTH...BORN IN SODOM" is the band doing what they do best. They play old school brutal Death Metal merged with sick Grindcore madness. The band has a bit of a groove based sound this time around. The music is still extremely heavy, but there is more Groove mixed within. I dig all the stop and start parts they have through out the album as well. The vocals are done in a very low ended thick guttural Death growl style. If your a fan of the bands past releases than your gonna love this new slab of pure Death Metal brutality! Another killer release from this great band! | CRUCIFIX NAILER - ANTICHRIST OF THE APOCALYPSE (2 track CD) MACABRE MASTERMIND RECORDS "ANTICHRIST OF THE APOCALYPSE" is one of the many new releases put out this year by CRUCIFIX NAILER. This band is yet another side project from Bob Macabre of the great band CHAINSAW DISSECTION. This release like most of his other release is done all by Bob himself. He handles all vocals, guitars, bass, lyrics and drum programming. The music is done in a very raw harsh Death Metal style that has an old school vibe to it. The music has crunchy & noisy guitar parts with blasting drum beats that almost crosses over into older styled Black Metal music at times. The vocals are a blend of raw aggressive Death growls and harsh Death gurgles. CRUCIFIX NAILER is probably my second favorite project of Bob's right behind CHAINSAW DISSECTION! He has been producing killer music for years so support this talented musician. |
| BURNING CASKETS - TO BURN A FALSE PROPHET (7 track CD) THE CATACOMBS BURNING CASKETS is a new band out of Canada, but the band members have been in the scene for a long time. The band was started as a side project by Korey & Mike from the great Canadian band ROTTING. These guys posted some songs on myspace and the response was over whelming. They then recruited some more members to form a full band. "TO BURN A FALSE PROPHET" is the bands first release. These guys plays ultra fast brutal Death Metal music. They do have more of a modern Death Metal vibe which would cross them over into Deathcore styled music. There is tight structure to this band that blows away most of the big name bands in this genre. At times they throw in a crushing groove through out the songs to. This is some of the best Death Metal I have heard in a long time and an amazing first album for any band. | GUIDO CAMPIGLIO - RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE (9 track CD) SG RECORDS Guido Campiglio is an Italian solo guitarist. He plays instrumental & shred guitar music done in Power Neo-Classical style. The music has a lot of 80's influences, especially from the more well know shredders of the time. He has a style all his own that is enriched with his personal ideas of exotic clichés, tribal rhythmic elements, Arab and Eastern scales and the use of electronic pads. His music brings to mind many great guitar players out there like Eddie Van Halen, Michael Schenker, Randy Rhoades & especially Steve Vai. The whole album is done as an instrumental album, which is good because vocals would just tarnish how good of a musician Guido Campiglio is. | HAVEN DENIED - ILLUSIONS BETWEEN TRUTH AND LIE (10 track CD) SG RECORDS HAVEN DENIED was born 11 years ago in Portugal, but this is only the bands third release. Many line up changes and going through many hybrids of music styles has added to the lack of album releases. This new release sees the band going in another new direction. They have more of a Metacore sound mixed with some Northern European influences. They also blend in many elements of Thrash Metal and Power Metal to round out their sound. The guitar work is where a lot of the Thrash Metal sounds come into play. While the vocal style has more of a Power Metal mixed with Melodic Metal and Metalcore styles. There is a cool grooved out Thrash sound that runs through most of their songs too. This is my first time checking out this great band and now I'm gonna have to search out their past releases as well. Give these guys a listen, cause you'll like what you hear!!! www.HAVENDENIED.net |
| MYSTONS - 3 (9 track CD) ELUCCAARTS This is the 3rd album from Finland's MYSTONS. This heavy duo plays a unique mixture of Alternative Rock, Metal, Grunge, Blues, Stoner and Doom. This is a weird mixture, but some how they make it work. I don't really know how to explain these guys but for some reason I kept thinking the same thing. It reminded me of IGGY POP AND THE STOOGES mixed with a Doom Metal influences. The music has a really slow and sludgy like vibe as well. The vocals are done in a more melodic and groggy sounding with and Alternative style mixed in. There is also a Grunge sound which comes out mostly in the guitar sound. These guys cover a wide range of styles so be open minded and check them out, you might actually find yourself digging it. I know I did! www.MYSTONS.com |
| NEUROMA - EXTREMOPHILE (9 track CD) GRIND SCENE RECORDS "EXTREMOPHILE" is the debut CD release from Liverpool, England's own NEUROMA. These guys have put out a split EP, but this is the first full length. This sis some very crushing Death Metal music at it's finest. The band incorporates elements of brutal old school Death Metal and new school technical Griundcore. There is a strong catchiness in their sound while still remaining extremely heavy. They spew forth aggression, heavy groove and blasting speed all through out. The guitar work is done very technical and merges Death & Thrash elements together. The thick bass gives them a heavier sound than most Death Metal bands, where the bass is lost in the frantic guitar riffs. At times they toss in breakdowns to mix things up and let the listener get a breather, but then it's straight back into the mayhem. NEUROMA is by far one of the best bands to ever emerge out of England (except their other hometown band THE BEATLES). | REB CAPPER - VOODOO DOLL (1 track CD) BACKWATER RECORDS Reb Capper is a quirky powerful and prolific singer / song writer from Suffolk, United Kingdom. Reb plays and writes very catchy acoustic Pop style music. She has been on the scene for a little while, but this is the first single from her debut full length album. She has an ethereal and eclectic blend with some Folk like influences mixed with in. She has definitely advanced her sound since the last release and you can tell she has really honed her skills to become and even better musicians and singer. If you were to blend the talents of Tori Amos, Joan Osbourne & Ani Difranco together than you'd get a good ideal of what Reb Capper has to offer. | THE GENERATORS - LAST OF THE PARIAHS (11 track CD) DC JAM RECORDS THE GENERATORS hail from Southern California and have been playing their brand of Punk Rock since 1997. "LAST OF THE PARIAHS" is the bands eight album to date. After one listen to this bands release there is one question that comes to mind. Why aren't these bigger than they are? This is some of the best Punk Rock to come out of the scene in a long time. I can hear influences from 70's, 80's & 90's Punk scenes. I really like the dominating 70's & 80's Punk vibe they have through out the whole album. These guys are better musicians than a lot of the stuff being shoved down our throats today that they call Punk Rock. If you want to hear a great band that brings back elements of SOCIAL DISTORTION, BAD RELIGION, CIRCLE JERKS, JFA, SURF PUNKS, THE DEAD MILKMEN & THE RAMONES then look no further! | ZOMBIFIED - BACKROOM EUGENICS (6 Track CD) GRIND SCENE RECORDS ZOMBIFIED is a five piece Death Metal band based out of Northern Ireland. "BACKROOM EUGENICS" is the band second release to date. It is a slab of pulverizing Death Metal that blends old school Death metal sounds with a little modern Death Metal technicality. The band has gotten a little darker and dirtier on this new release. They hit the listener with a barrage of pummeling blast beats straight into breakdowns and back again. The guitars are fast paced shredding with some crunchy almost Thrash like parts mixed in. At times, especially in the more spastic and aggressive parts you can hear some Grindcore influences coming into play. The vocals are done in a low ended Death growl and gurgle style. These guys mesh together most of my favorite styles of Metal and come out with one hell of a great Death Metal album.
